Gunner is a 2 to 3 year old pit bull with beautiful, soulful eyes and a gentle spirit that wins people over instantly. He listens incredibly well, knows sit, and is both crate and house trained, which makes him an easy dog to welcome into a home.<br/>Before arriving at the shelter, Gunner survived a gunshot wound that left him in need of daily bandage changes and careful treatment. Even while healing from such a painful injury, he remained patient, calm, and incredibly sweet with staff. He is now nearly completely healed and is expected to make a full recovery.<br/>Gunner also appears to be dog friendly, though he has not yet had a full, formal dog test. His relaxed and tolerant behavior suggests he may enjoy the company of the right canine companion.<br/>He is a truly good dog who has handled every challenge with remarkable grace. Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
