That's a hard life for a little girl. She is sweet, but very scared. She has never been exposed to anything like she is being exposed to now. Never been in a home, so not housebroken. Never been on a leash. Never heard a tv. Limited exposure to humans. Has not been held or picked up. All of this makes her uncomfortable.

FOSTER UPDATE: Sweet Gucci has been in my home for a little over a month, and that time has flown by.

What has Gucci learned in the time she has been here:
Gucci has learned how to wag her tail and now gets so excited when she sees us.
She has learned to relax on the couch and rest next to her favorite dog Captain.
She has learned to run around the yard, and even barks in a playful way. She loves to explore in the yard by herself or follow around one of my dogs. She likes both big and small dogs.
She has learned to use a few doggy steps to get on and off the couch.
She has learned that toys are fun to play with.
She has learned to follow me outside and inside.
She has learned it is ok to take treats from our hand, and it is ok if we sit next to her on the couch, if we don’t make a move to pick her up. If we rest our hand next to her, she will come and sniff it.

Gucci eats well, she hasn’t had many accidents, she rests on the couch, and when she gets down, I know she wants to go outside. We also let the dogs out every 3 hours or so. She sleeps in a fairly large gated off area with Captain and does well with no accidents throughout the night. She sleeps well and doesn’t make any noise. I have not crated her.

The one thing Gucci is still not used to is touch, it scares her. When I get a dog like her, and I’ve had quite a few over the years, I do not push that issue, or force them to sit on my lap, I give it time. Time for them to feel more secure, safe, and most importantly to trust us. She is making strides. For the first month, if I came anywhere near the couch if she was on it, she would jump to get away, just go flying off the couch. Now, if I move slowly and sit at the opposite end, she is okay with it. I can also pick her up and pet her for a short time on my lap. I don’t keep her there for too long, 5 or 10 minutes at the most, but she doesn’t hate it. It is still a little tricky to pick her up, but so much better than it previously was. She will get there, baby steps.

She came to rescue with several other dogs who are all quite shy, some more so than others. I wish they could tell us what made them this way, as hard as that would be to hear. In my 17+ years of fostering, she is one of the shyest I’ve fostered in terms of not wanting to be touched, but also more friendly in many ways, that previous fosters were. Progress is what I am looking for, not perfection.

I have high hopes for her, but she will need a patient owner.

Please follow along on my foster page for updates and videos. I post there often: KZ Foster to Furever Home

Please read our Breeder Release article on our Resources page prior to applying.

Fostered in Madison.

ADOPTION FEE: $450

To adopt the FIRST STEP is to complete an APPLICATION.

Adopters must be 24 years of age. We can not adopt to families with children under the age of six. We also only adopt in WI, IL, and parts of MN. Most of our dogs are strays, so the breed is our best guess.
WI License #270548.

Check out Fluffy Dog Wellness on our Home Page.
