Guava's Story

MEET GUAVA!

This 3-year-old little sprite is jam packed with love and affection! Just look at his face. He's got one of those gazes you can just get lost in. All of us who have met him have fallen hard. He is a very special boy. Guava came to us from Pug Nation LA. He had been a stray and had a terrible skin infection. They did a beautiful job of healing him up and now we are working on packing on a couple more pounds to get him up to a healthy weight. It shouldn't be hard as Guava is very food motivated.

Guava is all the things you love about a little boy pug. He has such a loving and tender personality, but he can go from snuggle to zoomies in under 10 seconds. He is really loving the young male pug in his foster home. They have had some epic chases already! The only thing he may love more than playing with his foster bro is hanging out with the little boy in his foster home. Definitely kid friendly! Guava loves to be with his people. He also likes to keep an eye on the neighborhood from atop the sofa. He has a voice but isn't too barky!

Guava is very playful and really enjoys chewing antlers, peanut butter stuffed Kongs and playing with stuffies. He has a lot of energy, so one or more daily walks as well as enrichment activities will keep everyone happy. He is a very smart and curious boy. He has learned sit and gentle so far and his foster mom thinks he will pick up on all the commands easily as he is a very good listener. He is a good boy for grooming activities, and he loves to ride in the car. He also did very well on his flight from LA, just in case any globe trotters would like to apply! Guava is house trained, but in typical pug fashion, he does not care for the rain. No problem, he'll use an indoor pee pad! Guava is not food aggressive, rather he is food possessive. If he is eating and anyone approaches, he will start eating faster as though it may be taken away. We can only imagine that this stems from his time on the streets. His foster home has been using a slow feeder with him, which has been very helpful. Guava's adopter may like to take advantage of our participation in Pork Chop's Pack for a discount on a Fluff Trough Feeder with a slow feeder insert.

Guava is in pretty good health. He is underweight, so continuing a nutrient dense high-quality food will be important to help him gain weight healthily. Keeping Guava on a strict flea and tick regimen will be important for his skin health. He does not have any itchiness following his skin infection, but the preventatives will help keep critters of all types at bay including the ones that caused the infestation.

Whoever is lucky enough to add this adorable, affectionate, silly, curious, and intelligent boy to their family will be sure to have a constant source of love and laughs. He has already gained so much confidence in his foster home he just needs someone to take him the rest of the way to being his best self.

ADOPTION FEE: $600.00 based on his age

REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT GUAVA:

Well-mannered children age 8 and older

Guava could be an only pet, or he would enjoy a companion with a similar energy level

Fenced yard desired, but not mandated

Daily walks a must

Continuing to work on getting him to a healthy weight

Commitment to Guava's ongoing medical care to include strict adherence to flea and tick preventatives as well as heartworm preventatives.

Any other pets in your home must have a history of heartworm preventative medications.

*Please note: Any other pets in the home must have proof of a history of using heartworm preventatives. An exemption from a veterinarian will be accepted.

If you have completed an application for another don within the past 6 months, you can fill out our Approved/In Process form to alert the adoption team of your interest in Guava.
