Groot's Story
Adoptable Chihuahua/Dachshund Mix, Groot, is 7-years-old and 9-pounds. He is the definition of tiny, loyal, and lovable. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Groot might just be your perfect match.

Groot’s Forever Home Checklist ?:

Groot can be barky and easily startled, especially with loud noises or movement so a home without shared walls would be ideal.

He has separation anxiety, so a home where someone is around most of the time would make him happiest.

Women-only home OR a man willing to give him days of gentle patience.
Another gentle, friendly dog is okay (will need slow introductions).

? Personality & Temperament
Groot is very shy at first, especially with men, and he needs time, patience, and a calm home to feel safe. Once he trusts you, he blossoms into the sweetest little cuddle bug. He loves to nap right next to you, burrow under the blankets at night, and be part of whatever you’re doing. His heart belongs to “his person,” and he shows that loyalty every single day.

? Other Pets & Kids
Dogs: Groot can get along with other dogs, but he needs slow introductions. He warmed up to his foster sister (20 lbs and gentle), but he barked and chased a larger neighbor dog he didn’t know. He likes to play, but only with a dog that plays gently.

Cats: He likes the resident cat but sometimes chases her in good fun.

Kids: He has only met kids in passing but has been friendly.

People: Groot is much more comfortable with women and takes several days to warm up to men.

???? Walking & Outdoor Habits
Groot is excellent on a leash. He has a steady pace, doesn’t pull, and is full of joy when it’s time for a walk. He’s fully housetrained, goes right to the front door when he needs out, and takes care of business quickly.

? Home Habits
He prefers to be wherever his human is and isn’t much of a dog-bed guy unless you bring it around with you. He sleeps in bed with his foster and LOVES to snuggle. He came with a crate, but once he felt safe, he decided the crate was “not for him” and becomes anxious if placed in it.

? Food & Toys
No food or toy aggression. He’s more interested in snuggling than toys, but he will try to steal another dog’s leftover food if given the chance (politely, of course!).

? Car Rides & Anxiety
Groot loves car rides but gets anxious seeing strangers nearby (like in parking lots). He cannot be left alone in the car.

Vetting and Medical:

In our Care, Groot has received a vet check. He only takes medication for anxiety at vet visits, otherwise he’s healthy.

Groot is the sweetest little cuddle bug you will ever meet. He would love nothing more than to nap beside you or snuggle in the blankets with you at night. He is incredibly loyal and wants to be with his human as much as possible.

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.

Medical Donations:

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
