Grits in Texarkana TX (Courtesy listing)'s Story

Text 501-336-5936 if interested in giving Grits a home. Grits is a courtesy listing for our neighbors and is not property of this rescue.

Grits is an outgoing neighborhood stray seeking a permanent home. She and her sister were dumped as young puppies at the entrance to a neighborhood next to a busy street. They made themselves at home for several weeks at one house where they were able to beg food and survive off of getting into trash, but as they grew older, they ventured farther down the street. That’s when neighbors in a different block pitched in to save them. Containing them in a fenced yard to protect them from cars, taking care of their vaccinations, worming, and even getting them spayed and ready for homes.

Grits and her sister Hashbrown are unknown mixed breed ladies. They are very good natured and love people and other dogs. Grits is the more social of the two and also just a tad bossy. Grits may be a little shy in a totally new situation but she gains confidence quickly. Grits enjoys toys, playing with her sister and playing with other dogs she has met. She tends to dominate her sister more than she does other dogs.

Grits and Hashbrown are approximately 6 to 8 months old. At the time of their spay on 9/11/26, Grits weighed 35 pounds and we expect her to be on the border of the medium and large categories when fully grown. They have been typical Puppies that are slowly growing more calm and outgrowing some of their puppy actions. They are able to come in the house off and on and may be able to learn to be house dogs if desired.

This is a courtesy listing. Do not fill out an application. Please text 501-336-5936 if interested in giving Grits a home. A minimum of a vet reference will be required, and regular follow-up communication with new pictures provided by the new owner will be expected.

Jeff Tarpley Rescue's Adoption Policy
Jeff Tarpley Rescue is a full-time volunteer rescue effort dedicated to helping dogs. All dogs for adoption are rescued from shelters or owner surrenders. Puppies under 4 months old are vaccinated and dewormed several times, with a spay/neuter contract required for adoption. The vetting of an adult dog includes spay/neuter, vaccinations including rabies, and heartworm testing. Dental work and treatment of heartworms, cherry eye, mange, parvo exposure and broken limbs are some examples of what is done to save lives. Shot and medical records come with the dog upon adoption and include the last date heartworm prevention was administered. We require all potential adopters to submit an application. We only accept applications for a specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do not keep waiting lists or files of general applications for dogs we might get later. The online application can be found at this location: http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html A completed adoption application and, upon approval, an adoption contract is required. Jeff Tarpley Rescue welcomes applications from homeowners, renters, and condo or apartment dwellers. At a minimum, a phone interview will be conducted and a vet reference checked before the applicant may meet their preferred pet. We adopt primarily in the 4 states of the ArkLaTexOma. Applicants willing to travel to Texarkana will also be considered with additional requirements to qualify as approved.
