Greta - LOCAL's Story

Meet beautiful Greta -- a devoted mama whose nurturing heart is just as big as her gentle spirit. She is loyal, clever with a great personality

Greta has had a rough start. She was found as a stray on the streets of Memphis in December 2025, heavily pregnant, with an old eye injury that left her with limited vision on one side. A week after rescue she gave birth to a litter of puppies, raised them in foster care, and saw every one of them off to a loving home. Now, at about a year and a half old, it's finally her turn.

Don't let her history fool you. Greta is one of the most fun dogs you will ever meet. She's very playful and full of personality, and when she's excited her tail doesn't wag side to side. It spins in happy little circles. She's also very smart and picks things up quickly. She has such great intuition about what you are feeling that it is very easy and fun to communicate with her.

Around the house she's calm and easy. She's crate trained and house trained, rides well in the car, and handles grooming with no fuss. Once she knows you, she loves people and will roll over for belly rubs. She's also a great watchdog and fiercely loyal.

Due to what she's been through, Greta doesn't trust people right away, and she dislikes strangers coming into her space too quickly. That means she doesn't always make a great first impression. Give her a day, though, and she becomes the sweetest, most devoted dog you could ask for.

Greta loves being outside, so a fenced yard would be her happy place, but she can do well in apartments so long as she gets regular exercise and play time. Greta ideally would be the only dog in the home, as she may be reactive to another household canine.

If you're interested in Greta, please plan to visit her more than once. Let her get to know you on her own terms. It will be worth every minute!

Name: Greta
Breed: Black Labrador Retriever/Crossbreed (DNA testing has not been done and therefore no guarantees are made with regard to this dogs breed mix).
Sex: Female
Age: 1.5 years (estimated)
Weight: 45.0
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Vaccinations: Up to date
Heartworm: Positive, PAWS will pay for the cost of treatment at a partner vet
Microchipped: Yes

BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:
Good with Children: Over 12
Good with Dogs: No
Good with Cats: Unknown

Adoption Fee: $550.00 (includes transport fee when applicable)
$100-150 additional mandatory quarantine fee for Massachusetts residents.

Location of dog currently: New England

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England, if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse, whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher.
