Gouda's Story

Meet Gouda! And yes, he is the big cheese!!

Gouda was relinquished because his previous owner could no longer care for him. In his last home, everyone was allergic to him, so he ended up spending most of his time confined to one room with limited social interaction. Because of that, his confidence and social skills just didn't get the chance to develop the way they normally would.

When he first arrived, he was pretty overwhelmed by everything. New people, new sounds, new environment, all of it was a lot. But with time and consistency, he's started to relax and show who he really is. And honestly, he's just a silly guy.

Gouda has very clear opinions about life. Loud noises are not it. Having his food messed with is also not it. But soft blankets, dog friends he trusts, and treats? Absolutely yes. Especially treats. He is extremely food motivated and will very quickly decide you are a good person if snacks are involved!

He also has a funny habit when you're working with him. He knows some cues, but instead of sitting, he often just goes straight into laying down like he's skipping the instructions. It's not exactly textbook, but he gets the point across.

Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys running around and getting the zoomies, especially in a yard where he can stretch out and move freely. He also does well with other dogs and can be social with them, especially calmer ones or ones he's familiar with.

With new people, he can be a little unsure at first, but he does come around if you give him time and don't rush him. He would really benefit from a calm, predictable home where things aren't too chaotic and where he can build trust at his own pace. Gouda did live with children previously and did well with them, but because he can be sensitive around food, a home with older kids or adults only would be the best fit.

What he really needs is someone patient who understands that confidence takes time. Once he has that, he's affectionate, playful, and a genuinely fun little dog to have around. Interested in this little cheeseball? Please inquire today!
