Gordo's Story

Gordo — a 3-year-old “house hippo” with a comeback story you won’t forget.

Not long ago, Gordo was left for dead in a pasture—skin and bones, with every reason to give up. But Gordo didn’t. He held on. And now? Now he’s living proof that a second chance can change everything. He’s healthy, fully vetted, and absolutely thriving… the kind of thriving that looks like a sturdy, happy boy who’s rediscovered joy and has decided life is better when it includes love, comfort, and a little bit of fun.
Because of what he’s been through, Gordo isn’t the type to barrel into a stranger’s arms on day one. He needs a slow, respectful introduction—and yes, treats absolutely help. Give him a little time, a calm voice, and consistency, and you’ll see his real personality shine: sweet, loyal, and quietly devoted once you’ve earned his trust.
And then there’s his favorite hobby: WATER.
If there’s a hose, a kiddie pool, a splash pad, or any opportunity to get wet, Gordo is in. He goes from “serious gentleman” to “professional splasher” in about two seconds, and it’s impossible not to smile.

Gordo’s ideal home:
🐾 No other dogs
🔞 Adults only (18+)
🏡 A calm home that will give him time to settle in and feel safe
Gordo doesn’t need chaos or a revolving door of new faces—he needs someone who understands that trust is built, not rushed. If you’re willing to be patient, Gordo will give you something rare: the kind of love that’s earned, steady, and real.

If you’ve got an adult-only home and room in your heart for a resilient, water-loving hippo who just needs a little time (and a few snacks) to fall in love… Gordo is ready.

All of our dogs come fully vetted and ready for their next chapter! Adoption includes:
✅ Age-appropriate vaccines
✅ Dewormer
✅ Microchip
✅ Spay/Neuter (completed prior to adoption, unless medically/age deferred)
✅ Heartworm test (if old enough)
✅ If heartworm positive: started on heartworm medication/treatment plan
💲 Adoption Fee: $250 (all dogs)
📌 Ready to meet your match?
Fill out an application here: www.scdrm.com/adopt

Once the home is approved, the dog is allowed to go home. At the time of drop off, a final contract of adoption is signed. Adoption resources, new pup resources, and guidelines are given to the adopters to help them transition with their new rescue pup.
