Glitter's Story
Meet Glitter!

This adorable gal somehow ended up at one of Houston’s highest-kill shelters not once, but twice. She was adopted back in 2024 through the shelter, but two years later, she was found as a stray wandering the streets of Houston. When one of our volunteers went to meet her at the shelter, she instantly fell in love. We tagged Glitter, got her out of there, and into a foster home where she is finally safe and loved while we find the forever family she deserves.

Now onto the best part: Glitter herself.

Glitter has a personality just as sparkly as her name suggests. You genuinely cannot meet a happier, friendlier dog. She absolutely LOVES people and wants to be as close to them as physically possible. She was fostered with a four-year-old and adored him, following him around, giving him kisses, and cuddling up whenever she got the chance. At one point he finally told his mom, “She’s always in my bubble.” And honestly, that pretty much sums Glitter up. Personal space? She’s never heard of it.

Glitter is smart, too. She knows sit and down, appears to be potty trained, and is fully kennel trained. She settles quietly in her kennel at night without a peep. She’s also still figuring out the whole toy thing, but has discovered that tossing them into the air is pretty fun.

She loves other dogs and would absolutely thrive with a friendly dog sibling in her forever home. She can be a little sassy when first meeting a new dog, mostly in the form of a polite growl that says, “Hey, give me a second.” Once everyone understands the boundaries, she does great and loves to play.

Because Glitter bonds so deeply with her humans, she can become a little protective of their attention with other dogs and will need a family willing to continue working with her so she understands she doesn’t have to guard the people she loves. She does not resource guard her food or toys just her humans and it's only from other animals. Given how unstable her life has been, we can understand why she wants to hold onto her people so tightly. While this sounds intense it's really not, her foster just tells her to stop and she does. She is not an aggressive dog in the slightest, very much the opposite but we just want to be as transparent as possible so we make sure to find her the perfect fit!

One of Glitter’s favorite things in the world is going for a ride. She’ll stand at the back gate ready to hop into the car for whatever adventure is happening even if the big adventure is just taking her foster kid to school. She walks well on leash and would love a family that wants to include her in their life. We’d consider her medium energy: she doesn’t need to run a marathon every morning, but hikes, trips to the park, neighborhood walks, and weekend adventures would be right up her alley.

Glitter is estimated to be around three years old and currently weighs 33 pounds. She’s a little thin and could stand to gain about five pounds, but otherwise she is healthy, fully vetted, and ready to find her people. As you can see she has some matted hair, but has an appointment with a groomer to get all fixed up.

After ending up homeless twice, Glitter deserves a family who means forever this time. In return, you’ll get a glittery good girl, and soul dog as your best friend.

Glitter is currently fostered in Houston, Texas, but is available for adoption nationwide. Her $600 adoption fee includes transport to her forever home.

The first step in our adoption process is submitting an application through our rescue:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DSTR/Dog
