Glenn’s FAQs

What is Fort Leavenworth Stray Facility’s adoption process?

ADOPTION APPLICATION: Our online adoption application link is not working, so please email us for an adoption application form or drop by the facility to fill one out. Thanks! Email fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com or lampphotog@yahoo.com. To meet adoptable pets, email fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com for an appointment. The facility is located at 510 Organ Ave., Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027. Call 913-684-4939 or email fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com to arrange to meet pets in our care. Some pets are living in foster care, thus appointments will be necessary to meet those pets. Appointments are granted to pre-approved adopters -- please submit an adoption application. There is no obligation when you submit the form, but we are a volunteer-run organization with limited time and resources and prefer to meet with pre-approved adopters when an appointment is necessary. The process: meet the pet, fall in love with the pet, fill out an adoption application if you haven't already, wait about 24 hours for application to be processed/approved (NOTE: sometimes this takes longer because 1.) we are volunteer-run and have a very small staff and 2.) sometimes a pet is quite popular and many applications come in that need to be reviewed), pay adoption fee, pick up pet and enjoy your new family member. Note: Adoptions are NOT made on a first-come, first-serve basis. We try to match our adoptable pets with the most appropriate home, not necessarily with the first person to apply. Additional time in processing applications may apply when necessary, and, especially, when many applications are received. Usually only the approved applicant will be notified. It is recommended that an adoption application be submitted as soon as you have an interest in a pet -- even before meeting the pet. There is no obligation at all when you submit the application, but we are volunteer-run and have limited time and resources and prefer to meet with pre-approved potential adopters whenever possible. This also speeds things up a bit and allows volunteers to start the approval process so you won't have to wait as long for your application to be approved once you meet and fall in love with the pet. Thanks! These pets are loved and well cared for once they are in our care. They will have already been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea treated, and whatever else they might need by the time they are available for adoption. (Note: That is, if available appointments and time allows before adoption date. Baby animals, for example, may need you to follow up with their spay/neuter appointments.) The standard ADOPTION FEE is $75 for kittens and cats, and $110 for puppies and dogs.
