Gladys-ADOPTED!!'s Story

Gladys is a Terrier mix (possibly Cairn Terrier and/or Norwich Terrier) weighing only 17.9 lbs. (9/23/03). This little girl stands only 10 inches at the shoulder and measures 16 inches from the base of her neck to the base of her tail, which curls tightly over her back. While she is a very calm, stoic 8-year-old lady, she has the enthusiasm and sense of humor of a pupster. When she is called, she joyously runs to you and rolls over on her back for her belly to be rubbed. Her foster mom pulled her out of an Appalachian WV kill shelter where she had been hiding under the papers she had torn up in her tiny cage as a "nest". She was depressed in the shelter for several reasons. When she was dying, Gladys' original mom asked next-door neighbors to take care of little Gladys. The people took her in and let her flea allergies get so bad that she was reduced to very little coat on the rear half of her back and, of course, she was itching like crazy. This misery combined with missing her mom, being abandoned at the pound, and being confined to a tiny cage made her extremely sad and withdrawn. After being treated for her skin allergies, her coat has grown back into it's cute bad-hair-day look. Gladys is extremely well housetrained, sitting quietly by a door until a human notices she wants to go outside--a luxury she did not have in the tiny cage. She absolutely loves to ride in a car. She will patiently wait by the driver's door until opened, then jumps in and gets in the passenger seat. Then she just sits staring at the driver with her beautiful "Mabelline lined" eyes for the entire ride. In addition to her fabulous personality, funny antics, cute wiry hairdo and beautiful eyes, she has the most darling rear end because of her bowed back legs. Gladys has been vaccinated, spayed, and tested negative for heartworms. She is on monthly preventative so that she will remain heartworm free. This very special girl is waiting for a very special person to share the next 10 years. Her adoption fee to defray rescue expenses is $120.
