Gladys's Story

Gladys is a beautiful Cocker Spaniel with a story of resilience, strength, and unconditional love. Born approximately around June 2023 (though estimates have ranged from 2021 to 2024), this sweet southern girl made the journey from Arkansas to Minnesota in search of the forever family she deserves.

When Gladys was found in Arkansas, she was suffering from what appeared to be a large chemical burn along her side. While the area has healed significantly, it remains slightly bald as a reminder of the hardships she endured. As if that wasn't enough, a veterinary examination revealed that Gladys is blind in one eye and may eventually lose vision in her other eye as well. Like many Cocker Spaniels, she is also being treated for chronic ear infections and skin allergies. Her future family should be prepared to work closely with their veterinarian and stay proactive with routine care to keep her feeling her best.

Despite everything she's been through, Gladys has never stopped loving people.

While sitting in a crowded Arkansas shelter, scared, uncomfortable, and uncertain of her future, Gladys patiently waited for someone to notice her. Thankfully, her second chance arrived. Since entering rescue, she has shown everyone just how much love she has to give.

She will walk on a leash - however, tends to not see where shes going well so will walk in front and behind someone. She also will ride in a car but tends to want to explore more first though, so crate or tether would be best

Gladys is potty trained, crate trained, and gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and children. She loves being around people and enjoys soaking up attention whenever she can. During a recent outing to a restaurant patio, she handled all the sights, sounds, smells, people, and other dogs with ease. Her only concern was making sure she stayed close to her person—at one point wrapping herself around a nearby chair just to be safe! Even with limited vision, she navigates stairs like a pro and continues to adapt impressively to her surroundings.

Because she is blind in one eye, Gladys can occasionally be startled if someone approaches her unexpectedly, especially from her blind side. She may growl if surprised, not out of aggression, but because she simply didn't know someone was there. A gentle voice and a little warning before approaching go a long way in helping her feel secure and confident.

Gladys doesn't need a perfect life—she just needs a family willing to love her through her imperfections. In return, she'll offer unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the kind of gratitude only a dog who's been given a second chance can show.

After everything she's survived, Gladys is ready for her happy ending. Could that be with you?

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $595.00
