GIRL FRIDAY (cc#6732) Mixed Breed West Orange, NJ

This is ‘Girl Friday’. We really have no idea what Friday's mix is. Most times it's fairly easy, but this one's a real stumper, and Friday's not talking.

In early March 2020 Friday was found as a stray right here in West Orange. We posted her on Facebook looking for her family, but haven’t had any luck finding them. So, after the state’s required 7-day hold, off to the vet she went. We thought she was under a year, but the vet thinks she might be as old as 2. (We're guessing now she's about 3.) She weighed in at 60 lbs. She was brought up to date on her shots (rabies and distemper vaccinations), was checked for parasites and tested for heartworm and lyme disease (all negative), and was spayed. This was all part of getting her ready for adoption. Unfortunately, this was exactly when the Corona shut down started and we had to temporarily suspend the WOAWL’s shelter adoption program while we, as a community, dealt with the crisis.

Since Friday is at the shelter and not in a home situation we can't tell if she is housebroken, but the ACO's tell us she tries to keep her run clean; and since the shutdown happened on the day she was returned to the shelter, she hasn't been around children. The only other dog at the shelter available for adoption was not good with other dogs, so we don't know how Friday would be in a home with another dog.

When West Orange municipal buildings closed due to the Corona virus restrictions, it included the township's animal shelter. The animals weren't ignored, however, and the Animal Control Officers were in the shelter every day feeding and cleaning and socializing. Now they are doing adoptions by appointment.
