Ginger's Story

Meet Ginger! Shes a 6-yr-old greyhound mix (a lurcher), with the soft brown eyes of a fawn. Shes a petite girl, just 50 pounds, who will melt your heart.

Ginger loves walks and spending time outdoors. She would do best with a fenced-in yard where she can sniff around and explore on her own. She does well in her kennel overnight with a potty break before bedtime.

Ginger walks well on a leash, but should always wear a harness. She hasnt entirely given up the sport of chasing small animals. Sometimes when she sees a squirrel run up a tree she shows off her trick - a jump straight up in the air to alert.

Ginger will do best in a home with patient humans. New people can make her anxious, especially men. She would not do well in a house with young or rambunctious kids. Ginger currently lives with a greyhound, and she will likely do fine with another large, confident dog to show her the ropes. Introductions should be made in advance to ensure personalities are compatible. No small dogs or cats.

Ginger is a shy, sweet girl, and when she finds her person, she will stay by their side. She might even chatter my teeth to tell them how excited she is!

This dog is being fostered in the Des Moines Area. We do not ship dogs. Adopters must be committed to meeting the dog in the area it is being fostered.

If you are interested in adopting or meeting this dog or any other of HGA's dogs, more information about the adoption process and the online application can be found here: https://heartlandgreyhoundadoption.org/adopt/adopt.html
We do not do meetings for dogs without an approved application.

The adoption fee for a dog from HGA is $300.00. This fee pays for medical costs including spay/neuter surgery, shots, parasite treatments, teeth cleaning, microchip and microchip registration fee. Each dog also comes with a special sighthound collar and leash set and muzzle. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee.
