Ginger's Story

Ginger is a gentle soul eager for love <3

Ginger is estimated to be around 3 years old, and she is a loyal and loving girl who we have all fallen head over heels in love with. Ginger's journey is one that reminds us how forgiving and resilient dogs can be. Even though people mistreated her, she continues to trust and is going to make a wonderful companion for a lucky family. Ginger is a petite girl and weighs about 50lbs.

Ginger was transferred to our care after a long recovery. She was found in an abandoned home last year after being completely starved. She was skin and bones and covered in fleas. She has made a full recovery, and you would never guess that she had been through something so horrible, as she is the sweetest girl who just wants to be your oversized lap dog.

Ginger is a moderate-energy gal who enjoys her walks and playtime, but also loves sunbathing in the yard and cuddling on the couch. She would be a great buddy for someone who wants a dog with enough energy to encourage you to get outside at least once a day, but won't drive you crazy if she doesn't get a lot of exercise that day. Ginger is a very polite girl and is a great house guest. She just wants to be involved in whatever you're doing. Ginger likes to think of herself as an amateur alert system and will woof at people who come to the door, but then will immediately love on them when they walk in the door. Ginger has been doing great with her basic manners training. She is eager to learn - especially when a tasty treat is involved.

Ginger is the only dog in her foster home, but has done well meeting other dogs and may enjoy an easy-going doggie sibling. She has done well taking corrections and doesn't get affended if a dog doesn't like her. Ginger has been doing great living with dog-savvy cats - she even is helping raise a foster kitten! She does think that cats are her friends, so she may be a little too much for fearful cats. We haven't seen Ginger around kids, but she may do well in a home with kids 12 years and older.

Ginger is house and crate trained. She is comfortable hanging out in her crate during the workday and at night, although she would never turn down sleeping in bed with you if you let her.

Ginger sustained a previous injury to her eye, which has caused some scarring. She isn't in any pain and doesn't require any treatment. It doesn't seem to significantly affect her eyesight or bother her.

**Please check with your apartment/rental pet policy before applying. Due to her breed mix, Ginger likely wouldn't be allowed under rental pet policies that have breed restrictions.**

Ginger is oh-so ready for a fresh start with her fur-ever family. If you think that may be you, submit an application today!

Ginger's adoption fee is $300.

Apply to adopt here!
https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/

Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)

It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.

For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org.

For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org.
