Gimlet's Story

Meet Gimlet!

Gimlet is a 9-year-old Papillon who is experiencing life as a beloved family pet for the very first time. After spending her life with a breeder, everything about living in a home is new to her. She's a gentle, sweet soul who just needs one thing most of all-time.

When she's unsure, Gimlet finds comfort under a table or tucked away in her crate. She may tremble when she's nervous, but she has never growled or snapped when being picked up. With a slow approach and a patient heart, she'll allow you to hold her, and she's already starting to relax in her foster mom's lap. Every day brings a little more trust.

Gimlet enjoys the company of other dogs and especially loves chasing and being chased by playful canine friends. A confident, friendly dog in her forever home could help show her that the world isn't such a scary place. She would do best with older, respectful children who understand that she'll need space and patience as she continues to build confidence.

She's still learning house manners and is not yet house trained. She has done well keeping her kennel clean after her first night and typically chooses a spot near her kennel to potty rather than using a potty pad. Like many dogs adjusting to a home environment for the first time, she'll need consistency and encouragement as she learns. Her adopter will need a secure fenced in yard due to Gimlet being a flight risk.

One thing that has won her over? A little canned squeeze cheese mixed into her food! It's quickly become one of her favorite treats.

Gimlet isn't the kind of dog who will immediately run into your arms-but if you're willing to let her move at her own pace, you'll have the privilege of watching a shy little girl discover what it means to feel safe, loved, and finally home. Her journey may take time, but the bond you'll build with her will be truly special.
