Gideon's Story
Gideon is just about the cutest little Yorkie you'll ever see! Weighing in at just 5 pounds, he's a tiny guy who would love to find a new home & be part of a family with someone who can be patient with him, and meet him where he is.

He came from a backyard breeder and did not have any positive interaction with humans, so he is still learning to trust them — but you can tell he really wants to. He loves to be petted gently and, when he really starts to warm up, he'll even roll over for a belly rub.

Sweet Gideon has a gentle soul and the softest eyes. He is VERY docile - not an aggressive bone in his body. Sometimes it's hard to know he's even there! Though he's still timid and fearful, he does not react at all when you pet him or pick him up. He's getting used to human touch, and spends a lot of time at first trying to find a safe place to hide. With patience, time, soft voice, gentle hands, and easy encouragement, he will thrive. He’s quiet, calm, and happiest when he can curl up near his person.

At his foster home, after a few weeks he became slightly more adventurous and would come out from the safety of his kennel and hiding spots, either to look around or sometimes even asking for a pet and attention. You know you have his trust and his heart when he curls up next to you. He now comes to his foster for reassurance and affection; but he's still skittish, and it will take time and patience to allow this sweet boy to take it at his own pace to build confidence and feel fully comfortable and secure.

Once that happens, he will be the most loyal, sweet companion you could ever want! He’s the kind of pup who just wants a cozy lap, soft words, and love he’s never had before. If you’re looking for a low-key snuggle buddy who will adore you once he feels safe, Gideon might be your guy.

A quiet home with a gentle person would be best for Gideon. Another dog is fine if the dog is small and low-key as well. He does fine with the other dogs in his foster home, but some dogs can make him more nervous if they're too big or rowdy. He has also been around young children and does fine with them - BUT the kids must be taught to approach him slowly and pet him with soft hands. He would do best in a home with just 1 or 2 people who will approach him this way.

He is house trained, though he has to be encouraged to go outside and is nervous when he does. He doesn't have the best associations of the outdoors, but given adequate potty breaks he will not accident inside the house. He ABSOLUTELY must have a fully contained fence with NO escape routes, as he will try to get out in fear. A large playpen he can be placed in outside would work too. He has not been leash trained as the leash and outdoors frighten him, so we're working up slowly to build that confidence.

Do you have the patience and gentle touch required to win over Gideon? You will be rewarded with the most loving and trusting of gazes, and cuddles from this very sweet boy who desperately wants - and deserves - a safe, loving home.

To schedule a meet and greet, please send an inquiry and fill out an adoption application, which can be easily found at www.jackjackspack.org/adopt

Once your application has been approved, a member of our team will contact you to schedule a phone interview and a meet-and-greet. This process can take up to 10 days as we are volunteer run.

Please keep in mind that we select the best-qualified applicants based on the needs of both the dog and the applicant.
