**GERTIE: 8 YEARS OLD, 100% DONE WITH THE NONSENSE** <br/>Allow us to introduce **Gertie** — an 8-year-old Cane Corso who has officially decided that her days of suffering are OVER and her days of being spoiled are just beginning. <br/><br/>When Gertie came to animal control, she was **emaciated** and had a mammary mass the size of a CANTALOUPE hanging all the way to the ground. Yep... you read that right. A CANTALOUPE. <br/><br/>Naturally, we were terrified. We worried the mass was cancerous and that it had already spread throughout her body.<br/>But Gertie apparently had other plans.<br/>**The mass was BENIGN!** <br/><br/>Once it was removed, it was like somebody flipped a switch. Gertie started gaining weight, getting stronger, and discovering that life actually has some pretty excellent perks when you're properly fed, medically cared for, and surrounded by people who adore you.<br/><br/>We also fixed her cherry eyes, and this girl has been busy making up for lost time ever since.<br/><br/>Gertie does have **dry eye**, so she needs daily eye medication. And because she's a Cane Corso, we're pretty sure she believes administering her medication is actually a privilege that she is generously allowing you to have. <br/>Personality-wise? **She is DELIGHTFUL.**<br/><br/>Gertie is an easygoing, lovable big gal who is absolutely embracing her new lease on life. She is doing well with other dogs in daycare, although she apparently skipped the class on **“How to Properly Socialize With Other Dogs 101.”** <br/>It sounds like she wasn't really introduced to other dogs growing up, so she can be a little awkward. But here's the important part: **she listens.** She takes direction beautifully and is learning how to navigate the world around her.<br/>Her trainers call her **a doll**, and honestly, they aren't wrong.<br/><br/>Gertie is basically your stereotypical Cane Corso:<br/> Big<br/> Beautiful<br/> Slightly ridiculous<br/> Convinced she is much smaller than she actually is<br/> Excellent at supervising<br/> Probably believes your couch belongs to her<br/> Will happily accept snacks as payment for absolutely anything<br/> Has perfected the “I have suffered enough, please bring me something delicious” face <br/><br/>But underneath all that sass is a dog who has been through **far more than she ever should have**.<br/><br/>At 8 years old, Gertie is a senior lady, but don't let that fool you. She's not sitting around waiting for life to pass her by. She's out there enjoying daycare, gaining strength, making friends, learning new things, and soaking up every bit of attention she can get.<br/><br/>She doesn't need someone looking for a marathon partner.<br/>She needs someone looking for a **big, goofy, slightly bossy, lovable couch potato who has decided she's ready to be someone's spoiled baby.** <br/>Gertie spent too much of her life being overlooked.<br/><br/>Now she's looking for someone who will look at this magnificent girl and say:<br/>**“Yep.
