Gertie's Story

Gertie was rescued from Hamilton Animal control by the Ladybird Animal Sanctuary. She is currently in a foster home in Hamilton. For more information about Gertie or the other animals in our care, please visit our website: www.ladybirdanimalsanctuary.com

We rescued Gertie from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Gertie had a severe skin condition when she came into HAC. She was sent to a vet where they diagnosed it as an allergy, likely to food. This lovely little girl is well behaved and house trained. She certainly belonged to someone at some point, but they never came to claim her. That might be a good thing because she was not spayed and it looked like Gertie had had many litters of puppies in her short life. Seems like whoever had her used her for breeding, then when her skin wouldn’t clear up, they got rid of her. Sad…
When Ladybird rescued Gertie, her fur looked a lot better than when she was first found. We had her spayed and got her on a strict diet to help her fur get back to normal. While in her foster home, Gertie had a sudden and unexpected seizure. She was rushed to the emergency clinic where she stayed for tests. Everything came back normal and she was released back into the care of her foster mom. The vet told us it may have been a reaction to the rabies vaccine she received the day before, or it could be epilepsy. It is impossible to tell at this point. She hasn’t had any more seizures, so we’re hopeful it was just the rabies vaccine.

Gertie loves her walks and play time, and would make a wonderful companion to the right person. She is a real snuggle monster too. Gertie is a little hesitant about children, so a home without them would be ideal.

There is a minimum adoption donation fee of $200 to adopt Gertie. It includes her vaccines, deworming, flea treatment, spay and a microchip. A small bag of the food she is currently eating (Instinct Duck formula) will be provided to her adopters. She should be kept on a limited ingredient diet to keep her allergies in check.

To apply to adopt Gertie, please visit www.ladybirdanimalsanctuary.com
