Geronimo's Story

Geronimo came to ACCT Philly as a stray on December 30th after being found wandering in a park. Geronimo is a playful, social, and handler-oriented dog who enjoys toys, treats, and gentle interaction. While he has high energy at times, he is easy-going in playgroups with calm dogs and enjoys exploring the yard. Some challenges include mild leash biting, difficulty returning to the kennel, jumpiness, and occasional mouthiness, but overall he is very sweet and enjoys pets and snuggles. Geronimo has demonstrated impressive skills, including sitting for treats and catching hotdogs. He is gentle and polite with other dogs, tending to walk away from overly playful dogs preferring calmer companions.

Geronimo is currently benefitting from a foster home. His foster has been sending updates consistently -
Per foster : "Geronimo's first few days were calm and quiet as he adjusted to my space. He slept often and spent time observing his new environment. Around day five, some of his behaviors became more apparent.

Geronimo does not enjoy being crated and will whine until he settles. We've been working on short periods of independence. Even outside of the crate, he becomes vocal if he is not in the same room as me. He would benefit from continued, consistent training and an owner who can provide firm, structured guidance.

When meeting new people, Geronimo can become jumpy and mouthy when excited. He has been redirecting this behavior to toys, which has helped. He is very athletic and requires daily walks, ideally more than once per day. He does pull on the leash, so a harness or secure walking setup is recommended rather than attaching the leash to his collar.

Because of his athleticism, he is able to jump over barriers used to limit space. He is intelligent and curious, which can sometimes present as sneaky behavior. While his paperwork lists him as 5 years old, his energy level feels closer to a 2-3 year old dog."

If you are interested in adopting Geranimo, fill out an application or reach out to foster@acctphilly.org

VIDEOS:

1/4 Geronimo went on a day trip!
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CJXak1FGF/

Playgroup Video: Mariah Carey, Geronimo, and Apple: https://youtube.com/shorts/EU7-KpJqImg?feature=share

Playgroup Video: Geronimo and Buddy Boy: https://youtube.com/shorts/Ztj-Fs_flAQ?feature=share

Geronimo sits and catches hotdogs: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/P6f1956b_Bk

Geronimo slow-mo hotdog catch: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZJDtnyJOJXo

Geronimo meets Swoops/Les Paul: https://youtu.be/ylQhjfCKy50?si=25FUceGCfzT5sTUc

Playgroup 1/5/2026: Geronimo, Pauly: https://youtu.be/yPlQVX-T6tc

Playgroup 1/5/2026: Geronimo, Pauly 2: https://youtu.be/P9lC3rMby5k

Playgroup 1/5/2026: Geronimo, Pauly, Shiloh: https://youtu.be/sj0zXv-G7T4

Playgroup 1/5/2026: Geronimo, Pauly, Shiloh, Chops: https://youtu.be/7tTZxtHfbZQ

Meeting Dexter: https://youtube.com/shorts/cG_2omRxVfU?si=ceFP-OkBA3t-4sSE

Meeting Dexter (alternate angle): https://youtube.com/shorts/tGrQpkZGnJs?si=4fa8LrokVTa8A1p3

Meeting Gumbo: https://youtu.be/Y0ikwzwhp8E?si=fwr4KXkJmiIlk90K

ISO Playgroup 1/18: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnvoGYrJkIYMVseH83_jcR9r9lLFD2y8

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
