Georgia's Story

URGENT! 10/14/2022 48 hours to live. Georgia, a gorgeous two-year old cream-colored Shepherd, has been at the shelter since August 16 and is slated for euthanasia.

Georgia had eight puppies about two months ago. Puppies are always adopted first and mothers are then given little time to be adopted before being euthanized. When mothers are with puppies, the shelter does not usually post them on the website. After the puppies get adopted, the mother dogs often don’t get posted at all. Georgia has only been on the website for a week even though she has been at the shelter since 8/16/22. She is a beautiful, sweet dog.

Pet ID: A1167156

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services to find homes for high risk dogs at Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield, CA. The shelter has around 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to under-staffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County.

805-492-CAPS (2277)
caps@caps-web.org

CAPS can arrange transportation if you are on the West Coast and help you find transportation if you are in a state outside of this area.
