Shes shy and cautious right now, taking everything in at her own careful pace, but theres a quiet sweetness beneath that timid exterior.

Gentry will also need a mentor dog in her home — a friendly, confident canine companion who can help her learn the ropes and show her that the world isnt so scary. Having another dog by her side will be key to her comfort and success.

She has moderate dental tarter, so will need a dental in the future and as grade 2/4 luxating patellas.

Please read our article on breeder releases before applying.

FOSTER UPDATE: Gentry has been with me for almost six months, which is a long time for a foster, but every week I see a little more of the wonderful dog she is becoming. She spent the first years of her life producing puppies for profit, and I am so grateful those days are behind her. Whatever her past looked like, she is slowly learning to trust and embrace the life she always deserved.

Gentry is an incredibly beautiful girl with the gentlest heart. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body—she is simply cautious. She isn't ready to approach people for affection yet, but if she's relaxing on the couch, I can sit beside her and gently pet her. She allows me to pick her up and even wraps her little paws around me. Those quiet moments feel like huge victories.

If you're looking for a social butterfly who wants to greet everyone she meets, Gentry isn't that dog. But if you have patience and find joy in celebrating the smallest milestones, she is incredibly rewarding.

Outside is where Gentry's personality shines the brightest. With the security of a fenced yard, she loves to run, explore, and quietly observe everything around her. She'll happily come close to see what's happening and often chooses to relax beside another dog. While she still isn't comfortable being called over, her confidence outdoors has grown tremendously.

A mentor dog is an absolute must for Gentry. She watches my dogs closely, follows both my large and small dogs around the house and yard, and clearly takes comfort in their presence. While she'll occasionally wander off to do her own thing, having another friendly dog gives her the confidence she needs to navigate the world.

Gentry has been completely reliable with house training in my home, although we do let the dogs outside every few hours. She has never had an accident indoors. When I'm away, she stays in a gated area with a few other dogs, where she has a comfortable bed and room to move around. She has never needed a crate. At night, she sleeps peacefully with the other dogs and is always quiet until morning.
She has an excellent appetite and never turns down a meal or a snack. She isn't quite ready to take treats from my hand, but every week she gets a little closer.
One of Gentry's biggest accomplishments has been learning to walk on a leash. It took several months of patience, but she now truly enjoys her walks. She doesn't pull or spend much time sniffing—she simply seems to enjoy taking in the sights, sounds, and experience of being out in the world.

Our fenced yard has been a wonderful confidence builder. She follows my dogs outside and has learned that coming back inside is safe too. To help her, I leave the garage door open (with the overhead door closed) and quietly step out of sight, and she'll happily make her way back inside. We're also working on the "stop" command, which has made it much easier for me to safely pick her up when needed.

Every evening, Gentry spends about an hour sitting on my lap. At first, she was unsure, but now she relaxes and seems to enjoy our quiet time together. These may seem like baby steps, but for Gentry they are enormous milestones, and watching her confidence slowly grow has been incredibly rewarding.

I truly believe Gentry will continue to blossom in the right home, just as so many other breeder-release dogs I've fostered have before her. She will never be the boldest dog in the room, but she has so much love to give to the family willing to meet her where she is and celebrate every little step forward. She deserves nothing less than a lifetime of patience, kindness, and unconditional love.

Gentry at a Glance:
House trained (no accidents in foster care)
Walks beautifully on a leash
Loves the company of other dogs
Mentor dog required
Sleeps quietly through the night
Great eater and enjoys treats
Making steady progress every week
Best suited for a patient home with a securely fenced yard

Fostered in Madison.

See more on her facebook page: KZ Foster to Furever Home

ADOPTION FEE: $750

To adopt the FIRST STEP is to complete an APPLICATION at fluffydog.net

Adopters must be 24 years of age.
