She’s shy and cautious right now, taking everything in at her own careful pace, but there’s a quiet sweetness beneath that timid exterior.<br/><br/>Gentry will also need a mentor dog in her home — a friendly, confident canine companion who can help her learn the ropes and show her that the world isn’t so scary. Having another dog by her side will be key to her comfort and success.<br/><br/>She has moderate dental tarter, so will need a dental in the future and as grade 2/4 luxating patellas.<br/><br/>Please read our article on breeder releases before applying.<br/><br/>FOSTER UPDATE: Gentry has been with me for a little over a month. I did not know much about her when I agreed to foster her, other than she was shy and beautiful. She spent her first years producing puppies for profit, and I am so glad those days are behind her.<br/> <br/>Gentry is a very beautiful girl, but her life before was not good, and because of that, she is so fearful. She does not have a mean bone in her body, but she is so cautious. She does not come to us yet, but if she is on the couch, I can go and sit next to her, and I can pet her. She allows me to pick her up and wraps her little paws around me. She isn’t going to be the life of the party, so if you are looking for an outgoing dog, she is not it. The good news is, she is becoming braver, the bad news is, it is going to take time. She will need another friendly dog in the home, to show her the ropes. She follows my dog Captain around and likes to sit near him. She follows him outside and back inside. She has not had any accidents in the home, but we also let the dogs out every few hours. She sleeps all night in a gated off area with several other dogs. She is a great eater, enjoys snacks. She doesn’t yet take a snack from my hand but is getting closer.<br/> <br/>We will work on leash walking soon. I wanted to give her time to decompress and become a bit more comfortable before we tackled that. With dogs this shy, time is our best friend. Nothing can be rushed, nor should it be.<br/> <br/>Gentry has not had any accidents in the home. When I am gone, she is with a few other dogs behind a gated off area, with a dog bed to rest in and room to move around. I have not crated her. She sleeps well all night long. She is a great eater, and enjoys treats.<br/> <br/>We have a fenced in yard and she goes outside with my other dogs every few hours. She follows my other dogs outside; to get her inside, I leave the door to the garage propped open (garage door is closed) and stand where she can’t see me, and she will scoot inside. She is learning the command “stop” which is making it much easier for me to pick her up. She does it well inside and we are working on the command outdoors.<br/> <br/>I am so hopeful Gentry will continue to come out of her shell, as countless other dogs I have fostered have.
