Gemma - in Maine's Story

The southern shelter estimated Gemma to be 9 months old. She’s at least that if not full grown. She was a bit overweight upon arrival from not getting a ton of exercise but now that she gets ro run and play she has slimmed right down to 27 lbs and is doing great! She has done well with other dogs and is non-reactive to cats.

She is shy at first in new situations and we think that small children would be too fast-moving for her but she might love some older respectful kiddos that will play ball. She just doesn't have the experiences most dogs who live their whole life in homes would have, so everything new is a little scary. She is accepting affection gratefully and looks to her humans for confidence and reassurance. She will follow you around and sit right beside you to watch what’s going on from a safe place near you. She will sit in your lap if you allow. She comes alive around other friendly dogs and loves to play with them. It will help if she’s adopted into a home with other dogs. She’s a great little pup!

As for her breed… no idea; we think maybe some blue heeler in there but she is a fun-sized girl who is 100% adorable! Gemma doesn't need to be crated during the day if in a safe area; she hangs out with her feline friend during the day and has had no issues at all.

One way to Gemma's heart is to play ball with her.

She lights up when you have a ball or when she has a dog friend. Her southern fosters had reported some nervous habits like digging and stealing clothes or shoes but now that she is getting regular exercise and stimulation those things are not seen at all! A fenced yard would be a good bonus for her but she just wants to be with her people. She has settled into a new routine here in her Maine foster home.

Gemma crates well and she is a world champion snuggler once she feels comfortable. If you have love and patience, and at least one other dog in your home, we think Gemma would love to meet you!

If you have interest in meeting this dog or any of our cuties, please fill out the adoption application here: http://www.luckypuprescue.org/adoption-application.

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where our dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.

Thank you for considering rescue!
