Gemma's Story

Name: Gemma
Age: 2 Years
Gender female
Breed: Mixed
Weight: 65Ibs

Meet Gemma! This sweet girl is a very loyal, loving, and friendly dog who has plenty of personality to share. Per her previous owner, Gemma loves kids and is completely housetrained. She can be a little slow to warm up to strangers, so a slow introduction is recommended. That being said, Gemma has been absolutely wonderful with us and, during her very first time meeting us, she was already offering plenty of hugs and belly rubs!

Gemma knows how to sit and give paw, and she absolutely loves rolling over on her back for belly rubs. She also loves to jump up and give hugs to the people she likes! We have been working on redirecting this behavior because, while we absolutely love her hugs, we know not everyone appreciates a dog jumping up to embrace them.

Per her previous owner, Gemma will chase cats, so a cat-free home would likely be the best fit for her. She also isn't a fan of water, so don't expect her to be volunteering for pool day anytime soon. She previously lived behind a 6-foot privacy fence and could climb all the way to the top, although she never went over, so her future family will want to keep her impressive climbing skills in mind when it comes to yard time.

Gemma has also shown some food guarding around other dogs in the past, so this is something her future family will need to be mindful of. We recommend a meet and greet with any potential canine siblings to make sure everyone is comfortable together.

Gemma is a sweet, affectionate girl with a big heart. Give her a little time to warm up, a good belly rub, and maybe prepare yourself for a hug or two, and you'll quickly see just how special this girl is!

Adoption questionnaire & information: https://www.waynedogshelter.org/adoption-questionnaire
