GEMMA's Story

Meet Gemma, a truly special companion who has blossomed into a calm, loving, and devoted dog in her foster home. With a gentle spirit and a heart full of affection, Gemma is the kind of dog who brings comfort and joy wherever she goes.
Gemma is somewhere in between vocal and quiet—generally relaxed, but she will alert you to doorbells or unexpected sounds (even if they come from the TV!). She’s wonderfully gentle with children of all ages, especially toddlers, and while she may get a little excited around babies, it’s in a sweet, curious way—she simply wants to be close to them.
She has shown herself to be friendly and appropriate with both cats and dogs. Whether meeting a cat on a walk or interacting with one in the home, Gemma has been calm, curious, and respectful. She also loves other dogs and is always interested in greeting them in a friendly way while out and about.
Gemma is well-mannered and adaptable, living in a calm home environment but accompanying her foster to a variety of dog-friendly places like stores and restaurants. She walks nicely on leash, follows direction well, and carries herself with a quiet confidence in public. She’s especially intuitive and has even provided comfort to a family member in need, showing her gentle and empathetic nature.
At home, Gemma is fully house-trained and crate-trained, though she’s earned the freedom to relax wherever she pleases—whether that’s her bed, the couch, or beside her favorite person. She loves stuffed toys, often carrying them around and gently “suckling” them, which is as endearing as it sounds. She also enjoys interactive play, especially a good tug session with someone she loves.
Gemma’s journey hasn’t always been easy. When she first arrived, she was anxious and fearful, particularly around men, and may have experienced seizures related to stress and instability. With time, patience, and a loving environment, she has grown into a well-socialized and trusting dog. However, she will need a home that understands her past and is committed to giving her the time and reassurance she may need to adjust. Ongoing awareness of her medical history, including the possibility of seizure management, will also be important.
Described as friendly, cuddly, respectful, and an all-around wonderful companion, Gemma is ready to find a stable, loving home where she can continue to thrive. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle dog who will be by your side through it all, Gemma may be the perfect match.
