Gemma's Story
Time for an introduction to our recently rescued pups, coming to us all the way from Manitoba. They were living outdoors and now that they have settled into rescue life they are looking forward to a much brighter future!
To answer the inevitable question "what breed is Gemma?" we really don't know for sure. We always call our Manitoba rescues "Manitoba mixes". Mom was a mix and we have no information on Dad. Whatever their DNA consists of, they are beautiful, sweet and deserving. They are expected to be large adults once fully grown.
Gemma is now 11 weeks old and has had two wellness checks with the vet, 3 DAPP vaccines, fecal testing, deworming, parasite prevention (Nexgard Spectra) and is microchipped.
She was previously in a temporary foster home where there were two dogs and several cats in the home. Gemma loves her canine fur siblings and one of them has really took a shine to her. She would do well with a friendly, well-balanced older dog to play with and learn from. She does try to pounce on cats and will need a home with very dog-savvy felines or one that is cat-free.
Her foster family had great things to say...she is very smart, loves her walks and being outdoors, will carry a leaf or stick in her moth and has zoomies around the yard. She was doing well with potty & crate training and will continue to require a regular & predictable schedule as well as positive reinforcement.
Gemma is seeking a dog experienced home - if there are any kids in the home we require that they are school-aged (8+) & dog savvy, ideally with large breed dogs.
This girl loves her canine pals! We do not know her experience with dogs before arriving to us but as with most puppies she would benefit from continued socialization with other friendly dogs...but no dog parks please! This goes for all of our available dogs - please google reasons why your dog should not attend a dog park. However we do think puppy lessons (individual & group classes) are a great way to train, bond with and help set up your new family member for success.
Puppies this age require someone home more often than not - they require crate training, potty training & socialization and should have someone available to help them with this every few hours. Being left alone for a full work day would not be suitable for any of the pups in our care.
Please send an EMAIL (or Petfinder form + follow up email) with additional questions or to request an application and meeting. Gemma and siblings have been meeting with families overt he past week and Gemma is the only one still searching for her people.

*** Please note that we only adopt locally, ideally within an hour or so from our Chesterville/Morewood, ON. location ***
