Gemma's Story
Meet Gemma!
Gemma is a 1.5‐year‐old, 25‐pound Beagle/Hound mix with soulful eyes, floppy ears, and a face that could melt just about anyone. Behind that sweet expression is a resilient little survivor whose early experiences shaped her into the thoughtful, observant girl she is today.

Her first year was spent in a chaotic hoarding situation, rescued alongside more than 20 other dogs. Food was scarce, comfort was nonexistent, and kindness wasn’t something she knew. But instead of breaking her spirit, it gave her a quiet strength. Gemma learned to move through the world carefully, taking everything in before deciding it’s safe — and when she decides you are safe, it means the world.

Gemma is what we lovingly call a “dog’s dog.” Other pups are her compass and her confidence. Around canine friends, her personality brightens — she watches them, follows their lead, and finds comfort in being part of a pack. Because of this, she’ll need a home with at least one confident, friendly dog who can help her continue to blossom.

A gentle, soft‐hearted girl, Gemma takes a moment to warm up, but once she’s out exploring her world, her happy personality shines through — tail wags and all. She is sweet, easygoing, and finds comfort in calm, slow affection. A patient home with another dog will help her keep building her confidence and feeling secure.

With people, Gemma takes her time — and that’s part of her magic. She doesn’t rush relationships; she builds them. With patience, consistency, and gentle encouragement, she forms deep, meaningful bonds that feel earned and incredibly special. She does well with respectful children and can happily coexist with cats, especially in a home that understands she likes to move at her own pace.

Gemma isn’t looking for instant perfection or a spotlight. She’s looking for her person — or her people — who see the beauty in a journey and understand that trust grows step by step. For the right family, watching Gemma gain confidence, open her heart, and choose you will be one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable.

Gemma is spayed, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.

**Please note: completing an "adoption inquiry" via Adopt-a-pet/Petfinder does not constitute an HFG Dog Rescue adoption application. All adoption applications must be completed on www.hfgdr.org**

HFG Dog Rescue is a 100 percent foster-based rescue located in Berkeley Heights, NJ with a sister location, The Almost Home Wellness Center, in Aiken, SC.
