Gelato's Story
Meet Gelato!

Gelato is a 3-year-old, 61-pound boy who is simply magnifico. From his striking, mesmerizing eyes-perfectly matching the color of his coat-to his fun, engaging personality, he's a dog who stands out in all the best ways.

He's easy to handle and can jump in and out of the car on his own. He rides well and settles in nicely for the trip.

Gelato has a playful side and really enjoys games like tug of war and fetch. When he gets excited during play, especially with tug, he can get a bit rambunctious and may accidentally grab more than just the toy if hands are too close. Because of this and his occasional snatchiness with treats, he would do best in an adult-only home.

He loves having space to roam and explore, happily alternating between running, strolling, and sniffing everything around him. He truly enjoys taking in his environment at his own pace.

Gelato has done well in lower-traffic public settings and can be walked around other dogs without issue. While he may be able to have dog friends, he would likely prefer to be the only dog in the home where he can fully relax and settle in.

He knows "sit" and enjoys treats, though it's best to offer them with a flat palm as he can get a little excited. With consistent training and the right guidance, Gelato has the potential to improve his leash skills and become a more relaxed walker.

In a home, he will benefit from a patient adopter who can help him learn boundaries-like what's appropriate to chew on and how to behave around food. He's a smart dog who just needs structure and consistency to thrive.

Gelato is a fun, unique, and engaging companion who will do best with someone experienced and patient, ready to help him channel his energy and continue learning.

As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.

To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
