Gecko's Story

Meet Gecko!

Get ready to fall in love-Gisela and Gecko are two absolutely adorable mixed-breed pups who recently made the journey from the streets of Baja California Sur, Mexico, to the Pacific Northwest in search of brighter futures. Thanks to our incredible rescue partners, these two lucky pups are now safe and settling into foster care in the Portland area, where they're beginning to experience what it means to be loved, cared for, and part of a home. Their Story:
Like many former street pups, Gisela and Gecko come from humble beginnings-but you'd never know it from their sweet faces and resilient spirits. They've already shown us just how special they are, and we can't wait to watch their personalities continue to unfold. What We Know So Far: Right now, both pups are in their "decompression" phase-taking in new sights, sounds, and experiences after their big journey north. As they settle in, their foster family will be helping them build confidence, learn routines, and discover all the joys of puppy life.

What to Expect:
As young pups, Gisela and Gecko will need patient, committed homes ready to guide them through all the important stages-training, socialization, and lots of positive experiences. In return, you'll get to be part of something incredibly special: watching a rescue pup grow, learn, and thrive. We'll be sharing more updates, photos, and personality insights as we get to know them better-so stay tuned!

Foster Update 4/20/26:

Gecko update!
He had a great weekend settling in, he and Birch are thick as thieves. We took him to a baseball game but he was pretty antsy when sitting with the parents in the stands but happy as a clam sitting 10 yards behind at a quiet picnic table. He is GREAT with other dogs and kids. However, he is pretty attached to me - gets upset if I go outside or leave, but if someone else is home he settles right down.

Will you be this boy's lucky hero?

PupFax: Geko
Adoption Status: Cleared and Ready!
Medical Clearance: Cleared
Medical Status: Cleared
Location: Portland, OR
Rescue Intake Type: Rescue/Shelter - International

At-a-Glance Stats
Breed: Mixed breed
Size: Medium
Weight: 40 pounds (Approx. last weigh-in)
Sex: Male
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Vaccinations: Yes
Microchipped: Yes

Home & Lifestyle Fit
People: Good
Dogs: Good
Cats: Good
Activity Level: Medium

Training & Manners
House/Potty Trained: Picks it up fast once he knows his environment/routine.
Crate Trained: In progress!
Leash Skills: Walks great on leash
Commands Known: Learning
Food/Treat Motivation: Very good!
Health Notes: None
Overall Health: Good
Known Medical Needs: (All known medical and behavioral information is disclosed prior to adoption.)

What We Know & Why We Love Them (foster/volunteer/staff feedback):

"Gecko is a sweet and gentle soul. He can be slightly cautious of new people, but warms up quickly once he has a chance to approach and sniff them. He seems to like kids in particular, and is very tolerant of them playing around him or with him. He is respectful of cats, and has been curious but not overly aggressive towards chickens and squirrels. He has a very soft mouth, its easy to give him treats or take things out of his mouth that he shouldn't be eating. He also has the softest ears, and the cutest spotted belly. He seems happiest when there is a small group of people around him, and he can settle down for a nap at our feet. He also has a goofy playful side, and is built to be very athletic. We think he could be a great buddy for running or biking with a bit of training. He is mostly quiet, but has started to do some warning barks when someone is coming to our house." - 4/8/26 foster update
