Gary's Story

Meet Gary, a very mellow and sweet 8 month old Lab/heeler/other type mix weighing about 45 pounds. Gary’s story started off tough. He was found abandoned on the streets and it took time and patience to bring him to safety. Once he realized he was safe, his true personality emerged. Gary is VERY affectionate and loyal. He loves being near people and it may take him a few minutes to warm up, but he quickly wins you over. Gary has the perfect balance of calm and playful energy. He enjoys hiking, exploring new places, and splashing in the water, but he is just as happy relaxing at home. His very mellow nature makes him a perfect companion for any household. He even watches tv with you! He is crate trained, leash trained, and potty trained. Gary does well with other dogs, is excellent with cats, and has been fostered and done well with an 8 year old child. He LOVES other dogs and truly comes out of his shell when he has doggie friends. He would love a home with at least one other happy, playful dog to show him the ropes. Gary would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore and enjoy his adventures. Even a four-foot fence works perfectly. He is currently fostered in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and is ready to find a forever family. Scout's Street Smart Rescue's Adoption Policy

Adopters must be 21+ years old and have proper identification. ALL members of the household must agree on the adoption. We do NOT allow adoptions to be surprises for others. Out of state adoptions are ALLOWED. We currently adopt to homes located in PA, NY, MD, DE, NJ, MA, CT, RI, OH, NH, OR, WA, SC, and FL. We will also adopt to homes located within 200-250 miles from Amarillo, TX 79101, and may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis for longer distances or other states. Potential adopters must submit an initial application that will be followed up by a phone interview and home check. Potential adopters must be able to prove that property management permits pets if renting or prove homeownership. We call two personal non-family references (ie. friends, neighbors or co-workers) that are to be listed on the application. If there are any current pets in the home, we will call your Veterinarian as well to ensure all pets are up to date on state required vaccines and are spayed/neutered. Potential adopter must provide basic care for the life of the animal. An adoption contract must be thoroughly read, completed, and signed by the adopter before the adoption is complete. The adoption process could range anywhere from a few hours, up to a week. We do NOT hold dogs/puppies.

My mission is two-fold. One, to rescue and to get these animals’ immediate needs met. Their needs range anywhere from immediate medical intervention to getting fosters lined up.
