Garth's Story

Hi, I’m GARTH — your future best friend, co-pilot, sun-bathing buddy, and official pup cup taste-tester 🐶☕. I'm 5 years old and 47 lbs although I'm working on adding a few pounds so I get up to 55-60 lbs. 💙

I’m a happy, social, easygoing guy who loves people, dogs, puppies, kids, and even cats — I’m currently living with one and doing great!

I’m also house trained, crate trained, treat motivated, and a total joy to have around. I love sniffy walks, car rides, lounging outside in the sun, catching a breeze, and just being part of whatever you’re doing. My secret power is I'm a quiet guy - not like some of my Hound friends!
✨ Dog-friendly
✨ Puppy-loving
✨ Kid-friendly
✨ Cat-friendly
✨ Great in the car
✨ Loves public outings
✨ Pup cup enthusiast
✨ Low-maintenance energy
✨ House + crate trained

I’m not asking for much — a little outside time, a cozy place to land, some strolls for good sniffs, and a family to love.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving dog with the sweetest soul and the easiest companion energy, I’m your guy 💙. Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes. What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
