Gabriel's Story

Meet Gabriel
5–6 years old | 12 lbs | In foster in NYC

Say hello to Gabriel — a small pup with a big personality just waiting to come out. He was rescued by The Sato Project from a heartbreaking hoarding case in Manatí, Puerto Rico, where he lived in a cramped home with more than 30 other dogs. His early life lacked stability, safety, and human kindness — but now, Gabriel has a second chance.

After receiving medical care and lots of TLC, Gabriel is now healthy in a wonderful foster home in NYC. Gabriel is quite shy and timid with new people — he’s not the type to warm up right away. But as soon as he starts to feel safe, which takes just a few patient days without pressure, he will be attached to your hip! Once he trusts you, he'll follow you around the house and crawl right into your lap for snuggles and pets. A quiet environment/household would help him come out of his shell the fastest after he is adopted.

Gabriel is very smart and well behaved. He loved his crate and immediately began to sleep through the night inside it. He also stays happily in the crate while you are out of the house, and got the hang of pee pee pads right away. He is a very quite pup, sort of like a cat, and rarely ever barks or whines in the home.

If you love the shy ones, the quirky ones, the ones who need a little extra time to show you they have a tremendous amount of love to give — Gabriel might just be your perfect match.

To Adopt:
Fill out an application at thesatoproject.org/applicationform.
Questions?
Email us at adoption@thesatoproject.org

About The Sato Project:
The Sato Project has been working hard since 2011 to rescue and rehabilitate the stray dogs of Puerto Rico, known locally as “satos.” To date, we’ve saved over 8,000 dogs and are committed to stopping the overpopulation crisis with spay/neuter and vaccination programs. Your adoption helps us continue this vital work.
