Friend's Story

Meet Friend, a four year old Rottie mix.

Friend’s story is a tough one, but this sweet soul is finally getting the love he deserves! He was found tied up outside our shelter, and it was clear he had endured a rough past. Some staff from the local Greenway recognized him and shared that he had often been left with a group of people living in various encampments, where he was tied up for long periods of time with no access to shelter or kindness. Despite this, Friend never lost his gentle nature.

Since coming to us, Friend has been soaking up all the love and attention he can get. His heart is as big as his personality, and he’s quickly proven that he’s incredibly friendly and ready to be a loyal companion. While life may have made him look older than he is, we’re fairly confident about his age, and he’s definitely not letting anything hold him back.

We think Friend might have a little teddy bear in him, with his soft, cuddly demeanor. He absolutely loves belly rubs and snuggles, and he’s looking for a family that will give him the comfort and care he’s been missing. Despite his past, he’s all about making new, loving memories and being the best friend you could ask for.

If you're looking for a sweet dog who’s ready to give love and receive it in return, Friend is the perfect fit. He’s waiting for someone to show him just how wonderful life can be when surrounded by love and kindness.

This pet is available for adoption on 10/21/2025 at 7:53 AM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.

Did you know YHS offers a "Play Date" program?

Whether you are interested in adopting or just want to hang out with a furry friend, it's a fun way to spend an hour, an afternoon or even a couple days. Every Play Date helps staff know more about a pet and helps a pet spend less time in a kennel. It's a win-win! If you are interested in adoption, a play date is a great way to make sure you and your potential new pet are the perfect match. Stop by the front desk or call in and ask how to have your Play Date today.

Ready to adopt?
Great news-our spayed/neutered pets are available to go home the same day! You can visit us in person, give us a call, or apply online-whatever works best for you.
For online adoptions please fill out our quick adoption questionnaire here: https://yakimahumane.org/adopt/apply/

Your adoption fee includes:
A lovable new companion, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations + deworming, flea/tick treatment, rabies vaccine (for pets 3-4 months and older), and microchip with nationwide registration.
Every adoption helps support YHS and our community spay/neuter programs to end pet overpopulation.

Questions?
We'd love to hear from you!
