Freya - Sponsorship Only's Story
Freya has made it out of the shelter and is now safely in a foster home with Great Plains Pointer Rescue.

She is a 13-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer who came to the shelter after her owner passed away. She had been living in difficult conditions and arrived in need of significant care.

We are just getting to know Freya, and she has not yet had her full veterinary evaluation through GPPR. She will be seeing a veterinarian soon for a complete examination, bloodwork, and to determine what medical care she needs moving forward.

Her shelter records noted that Freya has mobility and joint issues, cataracts, dental disease, pressure sores, and a malformed digit on one of her front paws. Her veterinarian also recommended further evaluation of several cysts and discussed possible surgery.

Despite everything she has been through, Freya has been described as a calm, gentle girl who enjoys being with people and is happy to relax.

What happens next?

Freya's first priority is getting comfortable in her foster home and receiving the veterinary care she needs.

Her veterinary evaluation will help us understand her overall health and determine which issues need to be addressed first. We will update this page as we learn more about her.

Because Freya is a senior dog with several medical needs, we expect her veterinary care to be more extensive than that of a typical GPPR dog. We are committed to giving her the care she needs and making decisions based on her quality of life and what is medically appropriate.

Help Freya

Freya's rescue and veterinary care will be funded by donations from people who believe senior dogs deserve a chance.

If you would like to help with Freya's medical expenses, please visit greatpointers.org/donate.

Every donation helps us provide the veterinary care, medications, diagnostics, surgery, nutrition, and other support Freya may need.

Thank you for helping Freya get the second chance she deserves.

Follow Freya's journey

We'll share updates as Freya settles into her foster home and we learn more about her health. Right now, she's exactly where she needs to be: safe, loved, and getting the care she has needed for a long time.

Freya is not currently available for adoption. Her foster home and veterinary team need time to evaluate her needs before we make any decisions about her future. 10/2/26 12:55 PM
