Franny's Story
Breed: Australian Shepherd
DOB: Jan 2022
Sex: Spayed female

Hi, meet Franny!

Franny is an approximately 3 month old spayed female Australian Shepherd. Franny is great with other people, dogs, and children. She loves to be next to your side and will follow you around wherever you go. She particularly loves to play with any toy that has a squeaker. Although she is a full australian shepherd, Franny is quite small at about 6 lbs currently and is half the size of her other littermate. She is going to be a full-grown aussie, but definitely on the smaller side.

Franny is fully crate trained. She sleeps through the night quietly in the crate, and happily goes there whenever we leave the house and intermittently throughout the day or until she hears us preparing her breakfast or dinner. We have been working through potty training, but she is not fully potty trained yet. Franny can hold her pee in 3/4 hour increments during the day, and tends to have one pee accident during the night due to her young age. She is very good about not pooping in the house and definitely recognizes that outside is the place for potty. As soon as you set her down outside she will do her business right away.

Franny's a very smart puppy, and she listens very well, but the ability for her to learn commands will be limited due to her more limited mobility. She will come when you ask her to, and if you tell her no she will stop right away.

Franny was diagnosed with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. This diagnosis affects the cerebellum part of the brain and affects coordination and walking. This is not a diagnosis that will get worse with time, and tends to improve as the puppy gains more muscle and learns how to use their legs. Franny's symptoms are pretty mild. She can walk, run, play, and potty as any normal puppy does. She just tends to be a little bit more wobbly. Other than that, Franny is a perfectly happy and healthy puppy.

Ideal parents for Franny would include someone who isn't gone 4+ hours a day to help her get through her potty training. The ability to lay out some rugs or carpeting to help with her mobility around the house. A home that doesn't have stairs, or the ability to block them off to avoid potential injury. Also, someone who is able to provide mental enrichment activities for Franny. Since she is a working breed, and has quite a bit of energy with limited mobility, it will be important to provide her with mental enrichment activities throughout her life so that she gets adequate exercise to avoid behavioral issues. Franny would do well with another dog as long as they are patient with some of her puppy antics, but she definitely prefers human interaction.

If you have more questions or would like to meet Franny, please drop us a note at tzupoomom@gmail.com

You can fill out an adoption application at https://apbdogs.org/apply-for-adoption/.

Animal Placement Bureau adoption process includes an application, personal and vet reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs under any circumstances.
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. Appointments to visit our dogs are only available after an application has been filled out, and processing has begun.
Please be kind to our volunteers.
