Franky in Portland Oregon's Story

Franky is a handsome, smart, and playful male Cairn Terrier who will turn 4 years old on November 11. He’s a big boy at 25 pounds, but stocky, not fat. His brindle coat is a beautiful mix of tawny brown, grey and black with a black mask. He is very smart and when he wants to play, he’ll bring you his ball or stuffy toy and put it at your feet, then bring it right back after you throw it for him. He is very affectionate and loves everybody he meets including the mailman, children and even the veterinarian. He appears to have a strong prey instinct, however, so he can’t go to a home with cats. He also needs a home without other dogs, or at least without other male dogs, because he has picked fights with the male Cairns in his foster home and that is why he needs to be moved.

Franky is very gentle when taking treats or when having a toy taken away. Amazingly, he rarely barks, although he does like to “talk” to you. He’ll happily go into his crate at night and sleep soundly until you wake up. He is very curious about the world and loves being out in the backyard. Although he is housetrained, when he first arrived at his foster home, they had to use a belly band for the first 7 to 10 days, but then he settled in and no longer needs one, and he does his business outside like the little gentleman he is. This may have been because he arrived intact and has since been neutered.

Franky knows some basic commands, like sit, stay, no, and back. He’s even learned to sit up on his haunches when asking for his favorite treat or toy. While he pulls on his leash, he’s been so excited to see all his new locations and smell new scents that that might be expected. Working with a trainer or even an obedience class will give Franky the confidence and structure he needs. Any family would be lucky to have this loving, smart little guy to be their own.

Like all CRUSA dogs, Franky is current on his vaccines and neutered.
