Frank's Story

Fostered in Freeport, Florida.

Fence required

Meet Frank - A 10-month-old Great Dane who truly defines the term “Gentle Giant!”

Frank came into rescue two months ago through absolutely no fault of his own. By just eight months old, this growing boy already weighed over 130 pounds — and that rapid, massive growth took a toll on his young body. Frank was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) in both shoulders, causing luxation that made it difficult for him to properly use his front legs. The corrective surgery he needed was extensive and expensive, and sadly beyond what his family could afford.

Thanks to rescue, Frank successfully underwent double shoulder surgery, followed by six long weeks of strict recovery — and he handled it like an absolute champ. Just last week, he also breezed through his neuter surgery and is now officially on the road to a bright, happy future.

Now let’s talk about who Frank is — because this boy is pure gold.

Frank has never met a stranger. He is wonderful with kids of all ages, adults, dogs big and small, cats, and yes… even a resident raccoon (safely caged, of course). He doesn’t have a single mean bone in his body. Frank is affectionate, gentle, and endlessly sweet — with absolutely zero awareness of just how big he is. In his mind, he’s still a tiny lap puppy.

He’s currently thriving in a foster home with three young children and three other dogs. He is crate trained, potty trained, and eager to please. Despite everything he’s been through, Frank remains happy, trusting, and full of love. Keeping a giant puppy calm and quiet for six weeks of recovery was no small feat, and his foster family truly worked miracles helping him heal.

Because of his massive size, Frank may be prone to joint issues such as hip dysplasia later in life. His future family should be prepared to continue supporting his orthopedic health with appropriate care, weight management, and regular veterinary checkups.

Frank is looking for a family who will love him for exactly who he is — a big, goofy, tender-hearted soul who just wants to be close to his people. If you’ve ever dreamed of sharing your life with a truly special Great Dane, Frank may be your perfect match.

Frank is fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and ready for his forever home. His adoption fee is $400.

To apply to adopt Frank please go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt to read over the adoption requirements before applying.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. Approved adopters must pick up the dog in person from his or her foster parent.

Our adoption requirements are as follows: 1. All Dogs and Cats in your home MUST be spayed or neutered. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet only. 2. All Dogs and outdoor Cats in your home MUST be current and have been kept historically up to date on annual vaccinations and monthly (or semiannual) heartworm and flea prevention. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions to this in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet, ONLY. 3. You must be a minimum of 21 years of age to adopt and be able to prove you're financially able to care for a great dane should a medical emergency arise. 4. You must own the property in which you live or your landlord must be willing to verify that you are allowed to have a Great Dane in your rental home. We check property records.? 5. Our Great Danes require a sturdy fenced in yard, particularly young or active danes. Generally, a six-foot or higher privacy fencing is preferred. In certain circumstances, the Board may waive this requirement depending upon the Dane's personality and temperament. Any such exceptions will solely be at the discretion of the Rescue Board. Under no circumstances will we consider invisible or electric fencing as acceptable. 6. We only adopt Dogs as indoor pets. We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception. This is not a white-glove inspection, rather it is to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the Great Dane. 8. We do not transport. If you are applying from out of area or out of state, understand that if your application gets approved, you will be expected to pick up the dane in the location that he/she is being fostered. In addition, if the adoption does not work out, it is your responsibility to bring the dane safely back to us. 9. There may be multiple applications for the same Dog. Our Great Danes are placed in the home we believe most suitable for them, based upon their individual needs and temperament. 10. Before applying below, please expect this application process to take about two weeks. If you are applying from out of area or state, please expect a slight delay. It will take us more time to get the home visit set up. At any time, if you have questions about the status of your application, please email the rescue at nwflgdr@gmail.com.
