Frank's Story

Cattle dog mix, maleFrank is a 2.5 year old blue heeler. Frank is a loyal and intelligent and does best in calm, kind, and structured environments. He is house‑trained, crate‑trained, and professionally trained. He knows sit, stay, down, shake, “okay,” come, and leave it, and responds best to clear routines and consistent expectations.
Frank is very dog‑social and has consistently done well around other canines and animals, including chickens. He has even formed a sweet and gentle bond with a 90-year old family member. He walks beautifully on leash and once trained, bonded, and given consistency, has shown he can truly flourish off leash on open property.
Like many cattle dogs, he is sensitive by nature and feels threatened by chaotic environments. Frank can be nippy initially when he feels unsure or overstimulated - his behavior improves significantly in calm, predictable environments. When handled with patience, predictability, and respectful leadership, Frank flourishes. Because of this we are seeking an adult‑only or older‑teen placement with breed‑savvy handlers.
Once Frank feels safe and bonded, he becomes deeply devoted to his people. He enjoys sitting close, laying in the sun and especially loves gentle chest rubs, which help him regulate and feel secure. He is playful and active—loves tug‑of‑war, chasing and returning balls, and engaging with enrichment. He is often burying pinecones, antlers, and toys, and he enjoys spending time outdoors. He loves a good antler or something hard to chew on.
A few more things to note, he is quite athletic and has jumped a six‑foot chain‑link fence, so secure containment is important. He has also done well during overnight boarding.
He is microchipped, neutered, and UTD on vaccines.
Frank is in Nipomo, CA
More photos and updates: https://www.facebook.com/www.cchdrescue.org/ search in posts and photo albums.
Interested in Frank?
