Francis's Story
Everyone say hello to Francis (or Pantsless Francis as his foster mom calls him)!

Francis is a 7 year old, 17.5 pound wirehair dachshund who’s looking for the perfect furever home. He’ll be a wonderfully loving dog for the right family, but he does have some very specific needs for his new digs. Francis would do best with…

…A home with absolutely no small children. Older kids (mid to late teens) could be ok as long as they understand how to respect a dog’s boundaries.

…A family that understands the Dachshund breed temperament. Francis is very reactive with strangers (both human and canine) and would benefit greatly from obedience and focus training. He would not do well in an apartment setting.

…A family that will take him on lots of walks. Francis LOVES walks and is pretty decent on a leash. He can walk for an hour and still come back home with energy, but he’s also a great couch snuggler and, in typical wiener dog fashion, loves to burrow under blankets.

…A home where someone is home more often than not. Francis came to us with some anxiety around his people leaving and made some pretty decent attempts at destroying his crate. He’s made great progress in the last few months but will need continued crate training before he can be comfortably left in a crate.

…A family that will continue working on housetraining. When Francis came into our care, he had some medical problems that caused frequent urination. These issues were resolved when he got neutered, and since then he’s been completely trustworthy while his family is home, and almost completely trustworthy while they are away. His foster family has been leaving him out in the living area while they are gone for a few hours while they work on crate training and accidents have consistently decreased.

…A dog buddy with calm energy who is close to his size. Francis has been amazing with two of the resident dogs (a female Chihuahua and a very timid male mini-Dachshund) but has had a few disagreements with the other dog in the household (a male Chiweenie). It is VERY likely that these disagreements have not been caused by Francis since this resident dog is known for being somewhat prickly, but because we want Francis to be successful in his new home, we want to make potential adopters aware in case they have another bossy male dog in the household.

————————————
The adoption donation for Francis is $200.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention (age appropriate).

If you would like to meet this dog, you must have an approved application on file and be willing to travel to the Columbiana, Ohio area for a meet and greet. All of our dogs reside in foster homes. We do not have a physical shelter.

Applications will be reviewed/approved and each dog will be placed in the home that can best meet their individual need. A successful adoption is our goal. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption of any dog.

We require you call your established veterinarian asap to schedule a wellness visit.

—————————-

Our applications can be found at https://www.apaprescue.com

We recommend using a computer, laptop or tablet to fill out the application. Questions do not always show up in full on a phone. Leaving a field empty will result in the application not processing. If you get a grey screen, scroll down to see which field you left blank. Follow the prompt to continue.

—————
**IMPORTANT **
Please note that when you use the “start an inquiry” feature it is NOT an application to adopt. This sends us an inquiry email and only leads to slowing down the whole process by making us send a reply telling you if you’re interested, please submit an application. If you’re interested in adopting, skip this and submit the application.
