Foster/Foster to Adopt Needed - Maverick

Maverick is an 8-year-old male English Setter currently in long-term boarding in Plymouth, IN. He needs an experienced foster, or foster to adopt home. He was an urgent owner surrender when the owners moved in early January. He would do best with a calmer/indifferent dog (preferrably female), but can be dog selective otherwise. He lived with older teenagers but no young kids. He ignores the cats at the kennel. He is house and crate trained, but does pull on a leash. Before rescue he was left alone 17 hours or more while the owner was working, He does have a higher prey drive for squirrels and birds, so would do best with a fenced yard. He does not like being corrected/pressured by humans in certain situations & will growl if in any stare down/confrontation. For everyone's safety, he should be muzzled while at the vet or when being handled closely (which he manages well). Otherwise he really is a happy, friendly guy. He rides well in the car. He will need a quieter experienced foster home, someone who is going to give him time to decompress and get familiar with them, the new environment, new routines, etc. & that has time to work with him, since his past life left him neglected & undersocialized. The rescue will assist with any recommended behavioral training/interventions. He has some seasonal allergies that are managed with Cytopoint injections & medicated baths, as needed. Grain free food also helps keep his skin issues in check.<br/><br/>Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance, to within 2 hours of your home.
