Foghorn's Story

Yes, on a kid-by-kid basis.

Could he do well with other dogs? Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis.

Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not "cat test" dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian's Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]

---

Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Foghorn is a friendly yet stoic beagle who enjoys exploring the outdoors but is less keen on interacting with people until indoors. He walked reasonably well on a leash, pulling occasionally but manageable, and was vocal during our walk. He greeted our stranger appropriately. When interacting with other dogs, Foghorn can be forward, and he ignored spatial requests from our tester dog. He was tolerant of handling but disliked having his paws squeezed. There were no signs of resource guarding over food with either people or his companion, Blue, and he understood the cue "come."

Initially indifferent to toys, he eventually showed interest in them. Foghorn was reserved but displayed bonding behaviors with Blue, showing stress when Blue was removed from the yard. However, he was less stressed and more distracted when walking alone and did not startle at everyday objects during assessments.

---
There's something special about Foghorn. This 7-year-old beagle mix may come across as reserved at first, but once you get to know him, you'll see the warm, steady companion he really is.

Here's the most important thing to know: **Foghorn is bonded to his very best friend, Blue, and they need to be adopted together.** These two are inseparable-they find comfort, confidence, and joy in each other's company.
Foghorn is friendly, steady, and prefers quiet moments over constant attention. He enjoys being outdoors, sniffing his way through adventures, and-like any beagle-he's not afraid to use his voice when something excites him. Indoors, though, he softens, settling into a calm presence alongside his buddy Blue.

Some of his favorite things include:
-Exploring on walks (with plenty of sniff breaks)
-Tolerant handling, belly scratches on his terms
-Time spent with Blue-his closest companion
-Discovering toys once he's comfortable

Foghorn Would Do Best In a Home That Offers:
A family who understands that Foghorn shines brightest with Blue by his side

He isn't much of a toy fanatic and can be a little stoic at first-but with Blue near him, he feels more confident and open. Foghorn has good manners overall, responding to "come" when called.

For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT

Lycoming County SPCA's Adoption Policy
If interested in a pet at the Lycoming County SPCA, please fill out an adoption application. The application is available on our website: lycomingspca.org. We may require additional steps in our process such as a home visit, permission from parents, or other additional requests. We appreciate your patience as we complete your adoption. Before adding a new member to your family, please consider the following: Many pets live 10 to 15 years. How old will you be? How old will your children be? Is there a chance you could move in the next 10 years? Are you willing to restrict your choice of housing to accommodate a pet? If the pet is for a child are you willing to assume the care of the pet? Children must have parental guidance to care for a pet regardless of their age. Each breed of animal has genetic characteristics that need to be considered. Have you researched the breed that you are interested in? Are you financially prepared for a pet? Consider the following expenses: spaying or neutering, basic veterinary care, flea preventative, heart worm preventative, license, food, grooming.
