<p>Flirt will remain in the <strong>Recovery Room</strong> until cleared for adoption.</p><br/><br/><div><strong>Update July 20, 2026:</strong> Flirt had her 30 day post-op cardiology evaluation and echocardiogram. Her heart is back to normal size, no leakage in the heart vessels, the heart murmur is gone. She can resume normal activity. Flirt goes back to the cardiologist again on August 25th for a BNP blood test which helps to evaluate how well her heart is functioning. It measures a specific protein released by heart muscle cells when they are under stress or strain. Flirt is doing very well and is a happy and active puppy who continues to enjoy her cocker dog friends in her foster home. She is a jumper and has pulled herself up and over a 3 ft puppy pen a few times so now she has a large crate for her "down times" and when we are away from home. She sleeps in a smaller crate in the bedroom at bedtime. She still needs leash training and more work on house training. If she is let out at regular intervals she does well but if not, she might house soil. She needs grooming lessons. For now she wants to eat the clippers :) She has the young puppy mouthiness wanting to chew at feet, toes, and fingers but is learning to redirect when corrected. She loves toys and bones. It seems like she is growing into a big girl quickly. One of the things I will always remember about her is her excitement and joy of following the other cockers around. She sees them go somewhere and follows immediately so as not to miss anything. I can just hear her saying: " Hey where are we going? What are we doing next"? Flirt is an absolute doll! A real love bug to boot :)</div><br/><br/><p><strong>Update June 25, 2026:</strong> Flirt is doing exceptionally well one week post op. This little angel has flown through this procedure with flying colors! She amazes me! She feels well, eats like a little piggy, and sleeps well. Her stitches come out in 1 week. She really enjoys the company of the other household dogs. She follows the pack everywhere.</p><br/><br/><p>Flirt is from a breeder release / mill dog facility. She is the most precious puppy girl! Young Flirt has a medical condition called PDA. Patent ductus arteriosus. The ductus arteriosus is an opening between the aorta and the pulmonary artery, the two main blood vessels leading from the heart. It is normally present during fetal development. When the newborn puppy takes its first breath, the ductus is stimulated to close. Closure of the ductus arteriosus ensures that blood will circulate through the inflated lungs and become oxygenated. Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a heart defect that occurs when the ductus arteriosus does not close at birth. Untreated this will lead to congestive heart failure. Surgical repair should be performed as soon as possible.</p><br/><br/><p>Come join us on the journey as we progress through Flirt's story.</p>
