Flint's Story

Name: Flint
Available Through: CATS and Dogs Northeast Volunteer Team
Contact: cnevolunteerteam@gmail.com
Located in Northeast CT
Breed: Weimaraner
Weight: approx 65#
Sex: neutered male
Age: DOB 8/22/2022

Background: Flint's original owner passed away when he was about a year old. His last family had taken him in then and put a lot of training and work into him but ultimately realized he needed more than they could give him.
Current Description: Flint is a big sweet boy who wants to always be with his person. He would do best in a home with an active family. He is a clingy boy which is typical of the breed. He is a super smart dog that would excel with a family that runs or hikes or maybe wants to dabble in dog sports.
Energy level: moderate to high
Favorite things to do: be included in what his human is doing, play with the other dogs in his foster home. Go for walks/hikes
Commands: sit, down, come, stay. He has done a 4 week board and train with Hop River Shepherds, he is also e collar trained.
Dogs: yes, he's done very well so far
Cats: has been neutral
Kids: he lived with kids aged 8-10. He also spent time with other children but he has had a past if not doing well with children who are not "his" children. He has nipped at kids before, I would highly suggest an adult only home for him as it would be an easier adjustment for him.
House-trained: yes
Crate-trained: He needs a sturdy crate, he doesn't love it, he will break out of a wire crate but has done well in a vari kennel style crate and he can be sent home with his high anxiety crate that came from his previous home.
He does cry for a while but will settle down when crated.
He has been doing better each day at his foster home when it is time to be crated, we think keeping him busy and exercised is helping.
Vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested:
Yes
