Flex's Story

Flex is a sweet, playful 6-month-old German Shepherd mix who has already overcome more in her short life than any puppy should have to. She came from a serious abuse and neglect situation where she was left for over two months with a broken leg. Amputation was originally considered due to her young age and the severity of the injury, but thankfully, her leg was able to be saved through orthopedic surgery.

Because Flex spent much of her puppyhood injured and on restricted activity, she missed many of the important experiences that puppies normally have during their early development. She is now catching up on socialization, exposure to new environments, leash skills, and basic obedience. She is still learning about the world around her and will need a family that understands she is a young puppy making up for lost time.

Flex loves to play and enjoys the water. She is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in the car while crated. She has been started on an e-collar, and her new family should be prepared to invest in a quality e-collar, such as a Mini Educator, to continue her training.

Her foster family is committed to helping her succeed, and private training will be provided at no cost to her new owners through Reliable Canine. Her future family should be prepared to continue working with her consistently and give her the structure, patience, and guidance she needs as she grows.

Flex arrived with a fairly severe case of submissive urination, which has improved significantly with patience and confidence-building. Her new family should be prepared for the possibility of some regression while she adjusts to a new environment, learns her new family's routines, and builds trust with them. This typically improves with age and increased confidence.

Flex is looking for a dedicated family who is willing to put the time into her continued training and development. She has had a difficult start, but she is a happy, affectionate, playful puppy who deserves the opportunity to grow into a confident and well-rounded dog.
