Fiona's Story
At 2 years old, Fiona is a small border collie with a big personality and, as to be expected, even bigger energy. This sweet, affectionate girl came to North Paw after spending her first two years living outdoors on an Amish farm. Because life on a farm was all she knew, the sights, sounds, routines, and expectations of a home are still very new to her. That being said, she is quickly learning about the luxuries of indoor living! She has discovered a love for toys, and we have discovered that she is a chewer who will do anything to get that last remnant of peanut butter!

Fiona's ideal home will be calm, patient, predictable, and willing to give her time to adjust at her own pace. A home with a confident adult dog is mandatory. Fiona will benefit greatly from having a stable canine companion who can help show her the ropes of household life and give her confidence as she continues this transition.

A securely fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus, giving Fiona a safe place to explore and burn off some of her border collie energy. Just as important, she needs a quiet space of her own where she can retreat when she needs a break.

Like many young, intelligent herding dogs, Fiona is eager, enthusiastic, and still learning some important manners. She can be mouthy and may grab at hands, and she can become very excited—jumping, running, and sometimes not quite knowing what to do with all that energy. Because of her mouthy behavior and current level of enthusiasm, we believe a home without young children is the best fit.

Fiona is also still working on house training and basic household manners. Her new family should be comfortable continuing this work with patience, consistency, and a predictable routine.

One of Fiona's wonderful qualities is how comfortable she is in her crate. She views her crate as a safe place and will often put herself to bed or retreat there on her own when she wants to relax and recharge. Helping her learn that the rest of the home can be just as safe and comfortable will be an important part of her journey.

Fiona is looking for an active home that understands the needs of a smart, energetic border collie. Her adopter should enjoy an active lifestyle providing regular physical exercise, mental enrichment, structure, and positive-reinforcement. At the same time, Fiona needs someone who understands that teaching a busy border collie how to settle and relax is just as important as keeping her active!

Most of all, Fiona needs someone who will appreciate her for who she is today while helping her become the confident companion she can be. She needs patience, kindness, structure, and time—and, importantly, a confident adult dog to help guide her through this new chapter.

Fiona has a lot to learn, but she also has so much to offer. For the right family, helping her discover the joys of life as a beloved companion could be incredibly rewarding. With time, consistency, and the right canine role model by her side, Fiona has every opportunity to blossom into the loving, loyal, companion she was meant to be.

Fiona's adoption fee is $600! This adoption fee includes: her alter, a microchip, her rabies, bordetella, and age appropriate DAPP vaccines, flea/heartworm preventative, and a deworming treatment while in foster care.

If you think she may be perfect for you, please apply using the link below!

https://www.cognitoforms.com/NorthPawRescue/NorthPawRescueAdoptionApplication

**Unfortunately, we cannot adopt out to Canada at this time.

**We require a 60 minute adoption radius. This dog is currently being fostered in Penfield, NY.
