Finnigan's Story

Finnigan is a very smart dog and wants to please. He is close to 90 pounds, we call him our gentle giant. He is a very sweet dog that takes correction very much to heart. He loves to be by his people. Finn loves to play outside and is always on a leash unless he is in the dog pen area. He does go for walks on a longer length leash to allow exploring. He loves to be outside. Finn does play ball and fetch and this can go on until you get tired. Playtime is very exciting for him. He has discovered the toybox we have for dogs and it is his favorite thing to grab a toy and play with it for a few minutes, then go get another one. A fenced yard would be best for him as it will allow him lots of space for exercise. He does get along with other dogs but would love to be an only dog and receive all the attention and love he has been missing.
Finn has lots and lots of pluses- is a happy dog, can chill and remain laid back as well as being fun loving with playtime, loves to snuggle at any time, will amuse himself with hard dog toys, gets along with other OES here. He loves to go on car rides and will lay down quietly until it is time for his ride to end. Like any dog, he can get anxious if there is a lot of noise, fireworks or if there is something out of the ordinary outside, he will run to see what it is and may bark. We have been telling him everything is OK and he needs to settle down. He did well at the groomer and does tend to be a bit paw sensitive. He does allow me to clip the hair around his eyes, clean out the eye buggers each day and check his ears without a negative reaction. Finn does tolerate brushing but it is not his favorite thing. He just had a shave down a couple of weeks ago as he came in with mats and a heavy coat. Finn is getting brushed every day (even though it is not necessary due to lack of fur) and is doing fine. Finnigan will adapt to the grooming process as he is building a bond with you.
He is the kind of dog that will go to the end of the earth for you and what you want but is weary new situations until he feels safe. Since his grooming, he likes to curl up on the couch and likes a good head or belly rub. He is crate trained, neutered, microchipped, UTD on all shots, received 3 year rabies, had Bordetella preventative for kennel cough, distemper combo shot, heartworm tested and on preventative meds, on flea and tick control. Finn came to us with some mild ear infections and that has been addressed. He also had both hookworms and whipworms and has received his first round of meds for this with another to follow in a couple of weeks. He is completely trained, no accidents in the house. Finn gets along with the other OES here, no food aggressions, very treat motivated and is gentle when getting a treat. He will be turning 7 later this fall. A lot of noise from activity and kids may accelerate his energy. He has never been around young children that I am aware of. Finn is anxiously awaiting a visit from someone that wants to start a new wonderful life with him.
