Finn's Story

Meet FINN

Before you get all enamored by Finn's adorableness, PLEASE read his bio first!!

NO KIDS

Insecure, overly confident (in his own mind ), headstrong, slow to trust & a bit of a control freak who likes to micromanage the room... sounds like your typical unsocialized terrier, doesn't it?

Finn is an 11-pound, 2-year-old Terrier mix (our best guess is a big Yorkie) who needs a calm, patient person willing to open his world a little at a time.

Here's the most important thing to know: If Finn doesn't know or trust you and you reach for him before he's ready, he WILL bite. We're not sugarcoating that.

But give him time to trust you & the magic WILL happen.

When Finn arrived, he wanted nothing to do with strange hands, so he spent his first week in our "decompression suite" (aka our master bathroom ). I periodically sat on the floor with him. No reaching. No petting. Just being present & letting HIM decide when he was ready.

By day two, he was approaching, sniffing & rubbing against me. By the end of that first week, I could pick him up, carry him & handle him without issue.

There's the magic.

Foster Dad has taken longer, but after almost four weeks, Finn is now approaching HIM for pets. Finn doesn't need someone who will decide after three days that "he doesn't like me." He needs someone who understands that earning his trust is part of the journey.

Finn can & does enjoy other dogs. A fun, happy, confident dog could be a great buddy, but if they're too wild, barky or grumbly, his little control-freak brain kicks in & he'll try to police the situation. ONE well-matched doggie sibling would be his sweet spot rather than a pack.

His ideal home is calm, kid-free, with someone physically able to get down on his level, work with him & slowly introduce him to the world.

Finn still needs work with housetraining & can be VERY vocal, so no apartments, condos or townhomes. A securely fenced yard is required, especially while getting a leash on him is still a wee bit... interesting.

Rules. Boundaries. Patience. Love.

If you love tenacious terriers & the thought of earning a dog's trust and being chosen by him fills your heart with joy, you just might be Finn's person.

Apply: https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/PPFL-A-4070

Adoption radius: 150 miles from Jacksonville, FL
All other pets must be current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered & on heartworm prevention.
