Finch's Story

Finch is an extremely endearing dog with a sad past and bright future. Exceptionally friendly with all humans he has met, a true social butterfly.

Finch jumps up. No two ways about. When he came to us, he was healing from some physical trauma, and he was a very jumpy and mouthy puppy.

For dogs who have never been pets, there is an added layer of learning that happens before we place them into homes. Finch needed to habituate to being a loving member of society, both inside and outside of a home.

Finch has a little team of helpers who have worked hard helping him reach the point where we feel he is ready to go home. He’s still a “work in progress” with his training. He is rarely mouthy, but without sticking to his training protocols he will jump up on people when they enter the home. This needs continued work… but, read on. We are going to help with that!

What’s this guy all about?

✅ Crate Trained

✅ Lots of cued behaviors

✅ Energy Level: Let’s go for a walk, then train, then play, then snuggle!

✅ Only 43 pounds

✅ 1 year, 8 months old

✅ Super Affectionate

✅ He comes with a Handsome Dan’s Rescue Take My Lead grant for $500 in FREE private training PLUS training and enrichment supplies!

✅ Working on keeping all four feet on the floor.

✅ Potty Trained

✅ Fun, fun, fun. And fun!

Finch is foster-shared in Connecticut and Rhode Island by two behavior consultants. He can go to a home within driving distance.

We would expect that until his jumping behaviors are fully extinguished he would do best in a home without tiny humans.

🐶 Upon initial assessment he did well with four other dogs! He is excited to see dogs, play bows, etc. any potential canine sibling would require at least one meet and greet to ensure a good match for both dogs.

😞 Finch was rescued from organized dogfighting by our partners at Humane World for Animals (formerly called Humane Society of the US) in early November. He suffered physical trauma consistent out dogfighting but after lots of great care he is doing very well! 😊

💕 This sweetheart of a puppy is excited to find his family!

Please go to HandsomeDansRescue.org to apply or for more info.
