Fern's Story

Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 8 yrs.
Weight: 7 lbs.
Good with dogs: yes
Good with cats: unsure
Good with kids: unsure
Energy level: unsure
Good with men/strangers: yes
Hypoallergenic: no

Special home requirements or medical: none

Additional info:

Fern is a tiny delicate pup weighing in at only 6.5 lbs. and is 8 yrs old. She’s an adorable brindle chihuahua who came to us due to a terrible hoarding situation. Since day one Fern has been the most precious, sweet and cuddly girl. She seems to be very submissive to whoever gets close… wiggling, tail wagging then going belly up or maybe it’s just a tactical move to get belly rubs. Whatever it is IT works every time! Fern likes men, women and older kids but will choose one to be her person. If she does choose you, she is the most loving girl! She loves being right next to you, on your lap or being carried. Fern enjoys car rides (in her car seat), sleeping, short walks, sleeping, exploring the back yard and oh yeah, sleeping😂. Fern is learning the basics and seems to know a couple of things already. She comes when called, sits automatically (sometimes)for a treat or stands on her hind legs-this may be a chihuahua thing! She is food motivated, loves peanut butter and treats throughout the day. Potty training “on a schedule” is going great. She walks well on leash and sleeps through the night in her crate.

Fern doesn’t seem to be very skittish but is cautious of new things and areas. She is quick to settle when she feels safe. She is not dog or cat tested at this time. Fern is thriving as the only pup in the house but did come from a household with many other small dogs so would likely do well in that situation also!

If you are not ready to adopt just yet and would like to help in other ways, please consider clicking on the green “Sponsor Me” button above to help this dog receive the best care we can give.
